Should a contact lense perscription specify a brand?

In other words... Is the BRAND a part of the perscription or can I order any brand I want w/ just the contact lense sphere # and Curve #?

If BRAND is part of the script, how do I change brands?

  1. YES! The brand is very important! Different brands are made differently, with different chemicals and have different water contents.  Your doctor will specify what brand you need to wear. If you would like to try a different brand, you need to talk to your optometrist about it, and she will write you a new prescription, after letting you try out a pair for a few weeks.

  2. No, they won't specify a brand, just the sphere, cylinder and base curve.

  3. I got contacts last year, and yes, they do specify a brand. An expensive one at that. I tried to get a different brand- they wouldn't sell it to me because it was the wrong brand. I still can't figure out how to get a different brand... please tell me if you find out.
