Question:

Should a dentist clean you so that you bleed?

I started going to a dentist and found that she's pretty harsh, making me bleed. But I have very clean teeth & haven't had a cavity for 16 years. Do I still need to be cleaned so harshly that I bleed? She also flosses very harshly and is expensive.

  1. To get off the tartar that's been on your teeth for a long time, yeah they do have to be rough it seems.

I too take good care of my teeth, and yeah it usually is it a bit painful, with a little blood there when they're done.

Yeah I agree they do floss harshly, but I think that might have to do with you being able to feel and control the floss when you're doing it, they can't feel the pressure when working on someone elses teeth.

I'm speaking as a dental patient here, not as someone working in dental office.  I agree they're pricey, way too pricey for those of us w/o insurance.

  2. She is not making your bleed. It is your gums that are bleeding because they are unhealthy. You need to floss more at home. The more often you floss (on a daily basis), you will notice that you will eventually stop bleeding, even when you are being flossed by the dentist/hygienist. It doesn't have anything to do with how much you brush or the fact that you haven't had a cavity in 16 years.

Now, if she is being harsh, I  only suggest you kindly ask her to be a little more gentle with you!

  3. When your gums bleed it means that you are cleaning deeper than you have in a while.. So maybe that's it. Ask her not to be so harsh!

  4. I'd punch the hag right in her eye.  Right in her EYE I said!!!!!!!!!!
