Should a dog eat potatoes?

I have a small Maltese dog. Should I feed him potatoes along with the meat? I heard that potatoes make dogs blind.

Every now and then it would be ok(cooked), but Dogs are soley carnivores. Although they can survive fine on an omnivore diet and are adaptable to that it's not the healthiest option. Always or regulary feeding a dog an omnivore typical diet reduces their intake of protein so therefore makes them less strong and all round healthy. Feeding a dog potatos will easily satisfy their hunger but you are feeding them starchy carbohydrate rather than just the rich protein they really need.

No potatoes are fine. My granny used to feed her old lab on them all the time. As long as they are cooked they are fine.

I think that dogs can eat pretty much everything humans can (except chocolate).

As for dogs being carnivores, cats require more protein in their diet than dogs (which is why you never feed dogs on cat food) and we have cats that eat potatoes.

that is rubbish...i have been keeping pets since i was a small boy and by giving them potatoes some times..wont make them blind.

Nope. The dogs do not need the starches nor the carbs found in potatoes

The cooked white (not skin) of potatoes is OK to feed to dogs in moderation, but it is certainly not needed.  Raw potato, especially the skins are poisonous to dogs and humans.  Never heard of it causing blindness...

I'd skip the potatoes entirely.  The starches are not the best thing for your dog to be eating.

Do not feed your dog table food(scraps).  Stick to a balanced diet designed for your pet.  People food is not dog food and dog food is not people food.  A balanced diet designed for your pet will provide the right food for a long healthy life.  If you are concerned about the china contamination of the past; there are recipes you can get for making your own dog food, but scraps are not a balanced diet!
