i got a guine pig 4 months ago she is 8 months old i think.

well i try my best to take care of her but my parents are having money problems so i can't get her bedding when she needs it and she needs a bigger cage but we can affored one right now.

i take her out every day and feed her her fave veggies.

and also take her out for play tim atleast twice a week.

but when it comes to her needs i can't do any thing i'm only 13 and can't get a jod to give her the proper care she needs.

i don't want to give her away but right now it seems like the best thing. i got her cause i thought she would replace my hamster that passed away. oh and the guinea pig was my moms but my mom is a loving and busy person so i told her i'll take care of the guinea. i'm homeschooled so i have alot of free time to spend time with my guinea pig. any ways if i give her up i'll fill good cause i know she will be with more guinea pigs and with a good family and i will fill bad caue she is apart of my family.

  1. If you can't afford your pet, do what's best for it. Don't give it to some random stranger. See if there's a close friend or family member that is willing to have it. If you really can't part with it, do the best you can. I am thirteen too and was trying o convince my mom of getting a guinea pig. If I knew you, I'd sure take care of it!!! Good luck!

  2. That is sad.  I'm sorry you are having to deal with this.  You sound like a very mature 13 year old, thinking about what is best for the guinea pig.  I'm not sure what you should do.  Do you have anyone you could babysit for?  Or clean for?  Maybe you could make a little money to buy a new cage.  Maybe you could find a cage second hand on craigslist?  As for bedding, I'm not sure what it costs monthly for a guinea pig's bedding.  For a hamster I think I spend about $5 so maybe a little more for a guinea pig.

Anyway, if you think it's for the best to give it up and since you already have found a good home for it maybe that's not terrible either.  You can always get another pet later on when things are better.  Good Luck!

  3. Agh, I know how it feels with the money problems, Im 14. I have a guinea pig too.

You really dont have to get rid of her. Like someone else said, just use some shredded up newspaper and give her alotttt of attention. As long as she's happy where she is, dont make her go through the whole new home thing.

Also, I would get a little job thing like,,, babysitting or mowing lawns for someone,... dont be ascared to ask someone. Tell them the story lol they should understand.

  4. ask ur good friend if they can care for them until u get money maybe

  5. Well...

If you want your guinea pig to have a full and happy life, then I suggest that you give your guinea pig away because it's not fair to you because your family is having money problems and you can't afford to give your guinea pig the proper things that it needs, and it's not fair to the guinea pig because it needs to have a family tht can afford to buy things that it

    needs when it needs it.

P.S. I'm sorry if i'm being a little harsh, but i'm just telling you the truth.

P.SS. I hope that you can find a good home for your guinea pig because it deserves it. If you can't find a friend to give it to, then you can always return it to the pet store which I highly recommend that you don't do, because pet store animals are actually bred uncarefully and uncaringly.

  6. If your not turning 14 in the next month then I would give her away to someone you trust to take care of her

  7. they always say if you love someone/something you have to learn to let it go

many people take pets in or even pet stores not petco cause they are dimwits but since you can not afford to take care of the guinea pig i would get rid of it give it a good home that get give it a nice cage and good life

i know it will be hard but good luck

  8. why not give her to someone that you know that would take good care of her. yes you willmiss her but you can get another one when the folks are in better place with money. then you can help them when you get orlder abit not alot but 20 or so here and there would be nice after you are 16 i mean you can mow lawns rack and stuff like that. you coudl do that now if you had mower do you have one? it would bring in some money if you made say 50 you could give half to them and half to keep but you have to thinka bout it take care and good luck

  9. Okay, i have 8 guinea pigs these tips might help.

(and im also 13, and not the from the richest family either.)

A guinea pig needs held 1-2 times a day ATLEAST

    for about 30 minutes.

If bedding cost is a problem, get bigger bags, they are around 7.00$ and last about 7-9 changes.

Get the cheap food, the guinea wont complain, regular

good food is about .85 cents a pound.

The cage isnt really a big deal if you take out toys or extra big things its not using, just let it run around on the floor in a pin more.

overall, guinea pigs arnt expensive or hard to manage.

  10. It is great that you want the best for your guinea pig.  I'm sorry about the money problems.  At 13, maybe you could babysit.  Don't you get an allowance? For one guinea pig, bedding shouldn't be that expensive.  You can get a big bag of pine bedding at PetSmart for like 12 bucks.  You don't need to change the bedding every day.  You can just take out the soiled bedding daily and then change the bedding weekly.  It sounds like you really love your guinea pig.  Maybe you could give her to someone you know so you can still see her but I would try to keep her if you could.

  11. No, If you like this guinea pig then you shouldn't get rid of it.

You don't NEED bedding you can just use ripped up newspaper will do the trick. Bedding is BETTER, but newspaper works.

Guinea Pigs aren't very needy animals they need a little attention. Food. Water. And somewhere to stay.

The cage doesn't need to be very big at all. As long as the guinea pig is happy in it I'd say it's fine.

Hope that helped, and hope all works out.

  12. Do not give her away for free. If you do, someone mean or people who do tests on animals can get her.

I would try contacting your local shelter explain your situation and see if you can take her there.

    Good luck!
