  1. No. It would be foolish. There's no sense in dismantling old references that do no harm. We might as well whitewash all past culture if we start doing that rubbish.

Personhole has no real meaning. Manhole has become a noun.

  2. I don't thinks so. While I believe the titles of status such as police person or spokesperson should use 'person', I think that the objective of calling it a 'man' hole it's not discriminating or sexist in any way. If we started demanding that everything that uses 'man' instead of  'person' you'd be surprised how many words would need to be changed.

  3. There was a game we played at Uni where the letters m-a-n had to be replaced by the non-sexist b-o-d.  So the word policeman became policebod, and the country Germany became Gerbody, etc.  Maybe we should talk about a bodhole.

Mind you, I later discovered that the word bod is Gaelic for p***s, so I guess there's no escaping the masculine influence on language!

  4. lol

  5. If you're being PC ... yeah lol

  6. yes it should.

i've been calling them personhles for years!

  7. Don't be silly.  It's called a utility cover.  But you can call it whatever you want.

  8. I suppose if women aren't allowed down there I won't really mind.

But to be fair, I always thought of them as sewer covers...

  9. actually person is greek/latin for first son, which is still gender biased.  Maybe it should be called an individualhole.
