Should a middle floor flat have roof access in case of fire ?

I live on the middle floor in a block of three flats, and there is no access to the roof , for escape in case of fire.Is my freeholder under any obligation to provide such access by law ?

  1. Going up during a fire is probably not a good idea, unless you can fly. I have seen fire safety ladders that can be stored in the window, or adjacent to the window. They hook over the sill, and can simply be tossed out for emergency exit. I hope you never have to use one.


  2. where would it go?   to the neighbors bedroom?  isnt this a silly question?

  3. you don't need access to the roof in case of fire you need access to the ground by fire escape or other means of escape, the roof would be a bad spot cause fire is unpredictable and can engulf a building quickly so best bet is a way to the ground, they sell rope ladders (actually chain) that can be hooked onto window sills for escape to the ground and can be stored in closet of a room or in a place that you can get at it quickly , they do come in a bag so they will open properly and get you out quickly
