Should a minimum speed limit while driving be imposed?

We were stuck behind some idiot in a jeep today driving at 30km/h on a road with a maximum limit of 80km/h. We ended up behind him for 10 mins because the road was twisty. Its really dangerous, if you met him around a bend you wouldn't have time to stop and both cars would end up in the ditch. Should a minimum speed limit be imposed?

  1. Most all highways already have a minimum and a maximum speed limit but on side roads they cant do it because of space.

  2. YES! Slow drivers cause a chain reaction of explosive feelings. For instance, while driving in traffic, slower drivers impede the progress of other autos on the road and cause accidents by not responding to the flows of traffic around them. Drivers frequently try to pass under unsafe conditions when the frustration of going at speeds lower than the speed limit propel them into action.

  3. There are sections for "impeding traffic" but generally they apply when there are several cars behind the slow vehicle and they dont use a turn off to allow cars to pass.  The problem with minumum speed limits come when the weather dictates a slower speed to be safe for the conditions.  If its dumoing snow, and the minimum speed it 40 and and safe speed it 10, then you have a predicament dont you.

  4. YES!  Actually I've heard of people being pulled over for driving to slowly.  Probably your problem was more a "there's never a cop around when you need one" kind of thing than there not being a min speed limit, if that makes any sense.

  5. In the States, many highways post a minimum and a maximum speed limit. I believe that there should be minimum speed laws in Europe.

As with any traffic law, it helps 'remind' people how to drive safely, but there will always be those with defective equipment or those who do not care.
