hi, my family recently bought a new dishwasher.

when we were picking it up from the store, we noticed something dripping from the bottom of the box.. looked like lots of water was dripping from the dishwasher. but we found it odd since it was a new dishwasher? the store manager assured us it is normal... but we are skeptical and do not believe him.

just wonder if this is supposed to be normal? thanks

  1. No, that is not normal.   There is no reason ANYTHING should be dripping from an appliance.

  2. As a former residential plumber, I have installed a good 100 dishwashers or so.  I can say without a doubt that water coming from a brand new dishwasher is 100% normal.

All dishwashers are hooked up and tested for leaks at the manufacturer.  Some water is almost always left in the plumbing of the dishwasher.  A few bumps on the shipping route or if the dishwasher was tilted at anytime water will come out.

You have nothing to worry about, in fact since water did come out, you can be certain that your washer was tested and is leak free.

  3. No, it's not normal. If it is brand new, never used, then there should be NO water in it. Maybe someone returned it and they are trying to sell it as new. I hope you didn't buy it.
