I am a rapper and I'm wondering what route to take, should I aspire to get signed by a major label or do the indie route, or something else.

  1. Whoever will take you I'm sure.

A major label is what I would aim for, they'll have more in money and jazz. However, they will be more likely to control your music.

I would perform, perform, perform, compete when you can (I don't know if rappers have "battle of the bands" kind of things, but I'm going to guess), collaborate with other local musicians, regardless of genre, (build up a diverse fan base), and promote yourself on websites.

Network with other musicians, and make sure you're always improving your talent. You need to be interesting, d**n good, and have a killer fan base. Don't be a idiot or a jerk either. I'm sure you're a good guy, just can't hurt to say that:) The more people you appeal to, the better.

Just my two cents. Good luck to you.
