Question:

Should a person get allergy testing done more than once in their lifetime?

I had testing done when I was a child (15-20 years ago), but lately, my allergies seem to be getting worse. Is it possible that I could have developed new/different allergies over the years, and should I have testing done again?

Thanks!

  1. If your allergies are acting up again, you need to be re-tested. Sometimes, you may have to undergo immunotherapy-- allergy shots-- a second time. People can develop new allergies or your immune system needs a boost to handle allergens that didn't bother you before.

  2. You should absolutely be tested again, especially if you feel you're getting worse.

Allergies are not static conditions, they can improve or worsen according to how our immune systems are doing, and what kind of treatment we receive.  New allergies can develop over time, and some kinds of allergies can go away, depending on treatment (nutritional therapy; immunotherapy) and the lifestyle (low in toxins, high in nutrition, exercise and sunshine) we choose.

You didn't mention whether your allergies involve food, but if they do, try to be tested for IgE and non-IgE reactions.  Non-IgE reactions will be delayed, and require a separate test.

    Hope this helps!

  3. I had allergy testing as a kid, about 20 years ago, and went for allergy shots for about 5 years.  Everything was great, but my allergies have been worsening for the last few years.  I finally went for testing again and found out that a lot of my allergies had changed, most got worse but a few had went away entirely.

Now I'm having allergy shots as an adult, which seems worse than I remember them being :[  It is improving my allergies, or I sure wouldn't be getting the shots considering the time and pain they are.
