Theese are professional kickers who are paid to nail kicks, i feel to be awarded a point for missing a kick is ridiculous. This will happen if it hasn't already, picture playoff game, tied with enough time for fg, your team on d-fence, offence 45 yds out, all they have to do is kick out of end zone even if they miss and your team loses. anyone with me on this one?

  1. I agree you shouldn't get a point because you messed up a field goal, or booted a punt into the end zone because that is not what you are paid to do. I see the reasoning behind it (trying to get the other team to run it out), but it we started them on the 20, they still have 90 yards to get a touchdown.

  2. First off - CFL overtime isn't sudden death so you can kick the ball out of the end zone if you want but it's a good way to lose possession and the game.

Second, I agree with old school, it's a point for not getting the ball out of the end zone.

Third, 1 point for 35 yards of field position is a good bargin if you ask me.

  3. Yes.  It is not a point for missing the kick, it is a point for failing to get the ball out of the end zone.

  4. Who cares! The NFL rules!

  5. Football is a game of inches.  The single point isn't for missing the field goal, it's for not bringing the ball back into the field of play.  Why should a team be able to catch the ball in the end zone and not even try to run it out, but still get reasonable field position (ie. not on the 1-yard line) without having to give up at least something?

  6. I'm a big CFL fan and i've always thought that this rule was stupid. Professional players who are getting paid to go out there every night and do nothing but kick the ball through the uprights shouldn't be rewarded for failing. It also takes away alot of the importance of the kicking game, cause i mean its not like you need to hire some amazing kicker to go out and hit 90% of his kicks when you get points for missing anyway.

  7. It is outrageous to even have the thought of getting a point for missing a kick. What, are you going to award a fisrt down for every dropped pass too? No! You're absolutley right. These are pro kickers, they've been kicking almost their whole lives and they shouldn't be rewarded for missing what they've set their whole lives up for. Trying for a field goal is supposed to be a gamble, it is supposed to be a last resort for not getting a touch down. If you got an extra point for kicking a field goal, people would be takig them from the other side of the field instead of punting it, the whole game would be ruined.
