Question:

Should a wedding have an alternative dessert if serving a nontraditional chocolate wedding cake?

Groom and I both don't care for traditional wedding cakes. We want it all chocolate. We are happy with that decision and worried about breaking tradition. Still, many websites recommend offering an alternative dessert when serving chocolate cake because of allergies or people who just don't like chocolate. How necessary is it to offer another dessert?

  1. With Diabetes and allergies so prevalent today, an alternative sugar-free dessert should always be offered.  It does not have to be extravagant, a well presented plates of sugar-free cookies lets all of your guests know they are special to you!

  2. You should always be offering other selections, anyways, such as at least a variety of squares/dainties.

  3. its nice but you dont have to!

  4. I think that choclate cake is a lot more popular than fruit cake !  But what about offering a fruit plate ?  That's what we're doing.  You could even have meringues with it as well, even the store bought ones are delicious.

  5. It's your wedding. If you want chocolate, have it. If the guest doesn't want it, oh well. You don't have to accomodate every person's preferences. If anyone gets upset, s***w them; they're an ******.

  6. I don't think it's at all necessary to offer dessert besides the cake. You fed your guests dinner...and that's enough. If they don't want chocolate cake....then they don't get anything.

I think that most of your guests will be happy to ahve something besides the traditional cake...lots of people don't like it. (I'm not one of them....btw)

  7. Get chocolate cupcakes they are small yet classy!  A lot of good places can make wedding cupcakes! I also think that it is necessary to get a diffrent dessert bcause you guys are the most important people there!!!

  8. you aren't going to please everyone, no matter what you do.  if chocolate cake is what you want, then chocolate cake is what they will have.  if you are worried, though, look into a sweet table with cookies, fruit, etc.

  9. I would have to disagree to what she said at weddings I've been to they usually have alternate desserts with coffee thats set up such as like a buffet style dessert and then a cake. Everyone likes their dessert different so from what I've enjoyed I would recommend getting some other dessert

  10. It is probably a good idea to have at least one alternative dessert; in your case, a white cake that is sugar-free.  This is not a matter of the picky-eater, but a health concern that is common, particularly for older family members.

  11. Can you get one with both chocolate and white cake? Half the tiers could be chocolate, half could be white. Then everyone's happy. But if you really want all chocolate, then no, you aren't obligated to offer anything else.

  12. i don't see a need for an alternate cake.

if you are REALLY concerned about health, more people can't  eat flour than are allergic to chocolate.  and some people can't eat sugar, which an issue with any cake.

If people are saying you have to have an alternative WHITE cake - that's just silly.
