I disagree. Abortions are not killing babies. If you read up it isnt even close to a baby. yes you may think its a life inside you but before the first few months its not

I am doing a research for my college and have to collect peoples views on abortions and the % if anyone knows any good sites.

  1. hey there... this is a very sensative q to ask but my opinion is no it shouldnt it should not be allowd aafter 12 weeks tho i do believe so after this it is killing a baby an i dont believe it should be allowedafter this time unless there is an extremely, extremely good reason e.g serious harm to the mother or the baby good luck with ur colllege work

  2. no they should not

what if the person is raped?

or there is a medical reason and the baby must be aborted to save the womens life?

  3. Sunshine took the words out of my mouth. I'm sorry you think the way you do. I feel bad for all the innocent babies that come in your path.

  4. I personally don't think they should be stopped, i fell pregnant while taking the pill and had an abortion. My periods were still normal and i only found out as i have a blood test for something else. i'm glad i had the option of an abortion as it was right for me due to not being emotionally or financially stable to bring up a child. it was a joint decision between myself and my partner, we discussed it at length and was a hard decision to make and no one should think its easy. it was one of the hardest things i've ever had to do. It does also affect the male in the relationship, a lot of people don't think this is the case. If anyone does make the decision to do it they need to make sure that they have support for this. i kept it between limited people that i knew would respect my decision and understand my reasons for it. It is never a nice thing to go through no matter how far into the pregnancy you are. I did feel like there was something missing after having mine but I still knew i'd done the right thing.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Short answer - for the most part, yes.

Long answer - I have thought about this quite a bit over the years. The wide spread of opinions is incredible, matched only by the passion of the activists on all sides. This is an issue that few people are even able to have a civilized discussion about. Complicating it further is that there are few that hold a black-and-white view of the issue. The majority of people in the US see abortion as a giant grey area with varying degrees of abortion considered acceptable. Very few people hold the position of unlimited abortion access or no abortion under any circumstances. Below is the process I went through to come up with my position on the matter.

First, I asked myself the question at what point does a human being obtain "personhood" and as such gain all the legal and moral protections that status entitles them to? There are some who say that the point of personhood is 28 days AFTER birth, at which point you still should be allowed to abort. In fact, there is a professor of ethics at Princeton University that actively advocates this position. This is the position that spurred “Born Alive” legislation that says if a woman has an abortion and the baby survives, that doctors cannot withhold care and let the baby die on the operating table. Others say up to the point of birth. These folks, such as Barak Obama, would hold that this type of infanticide as well as partial birth abortion is a reasonable procedure. Or perhaps just before while the mother is in labor. Or 6 months of gestation or 3 months or three weeks. I wrestled with this for a long time.

Then I looked at the issue a different way. Does human life have an imputed value or an intrinsic one? If we say that it is imputed, meaning the value is derived from something else, some outside criteria, then any one of the above positions would be equally valid. We as a society would decide what criteria to select. My problem with this is what criteria do you use? On what basis is a baby at 6 weeks more valuable than a baby at 5 weeks? Is a baby that has not yet developed a heart still a baby? This hit really hard on my wife and I when we lost one of our children. Lynne had a miscarriage a few years ago. When people with strong pro-choice sentiments gave us their condolences, they referred to the fetus as a child, even though she (we named her Grace, even though we do not know for sure if she was a she or a he. It made it easier to explain to the children what happened and easier for Lynne and I to grieve our loss) was at the same gestational point, 9 weeks, that they believed abortion was merely removing some unwanted tissue of the mother. So, the criteria used is whether or not a child is wanted. If that is so, then why? The characteristics of an object of any sort are not contingent on another persons belief for perception.

By similar logic, if the value of human life is imputed, it can also be taken away, depending on what some person or group of persons believe that life is worth. So if you happen to be mentally retarded or black or Jewish, it would be perfectly reasonable for you to be killed off for the good of the community if they believe it. I have a friend who is paralyzed from the neck down and constantly in pain. There are some in the world who would look at her and say that she has no quality of life or that the money and effort to support her would be better used on others. They would have her die due to her handicap. But knowing her the way I do I find the notion that she is without a quality of life to be ridiculous on its face. She is a writer, a painter, a social worker, and heads up an international charity. I’d call that a pretty good quality of life. So would her husband who married her years after her accident put her in the wheelchair. Thus, the imputed value logic is shown to me to be completely arbitrary. Following any of the “prior to this point it is not human but at this one on it is” positions is likewise arbitrary and does not answer the question of personhood.

But consider the proposition that human life has an intrinsic value. That it is valuable simply because it is human life and no other reason. No measure or quantification of the value of it, it is and that is enough. It is sort of like gold. Gold is valuable because it is gold, not because we as a society stood up one day and said, “we are going to make gold valuable”. Gold has an intrinsic value as opposed to an imputed value, such as paper currency. Paper currency is worthless in and of itself. It has value only because we say it has a certain value.

This position then would support a clear line between human life and not human life. With this position, you are a human at the point that you have a unique genetic code. In other words, at conception. Prior to that, there was no “you”. The male and female reproductive components in and of themselves are not a unique genetic code, but merely parts of the donors. It is only when they combine to create new life do “you” begin to be a person.

The notion of intrinsic value also carries forward throughout life. My mother-in-law was on dialysis for several months before diabetes finally took her life. There are many who would have said that she should just die and not burden the rest of us. If those persons held the position that human life has imputed value, I can understand. I however, believe that human life is intrinsically valuable and worth preserving and protecting for as long as possible. Thus, we should protect life at the beginning and at the end and at all points in between. That is why we continued to get her to dialysis until the day she finally passed away.

So, we come full circle back to the question of abortion. Should it be outlawed? My answer, since I believe in the intrinsic value of human life, is that for the most part it should. Why only “for the most part”? Because there are times when you have to weigh the life of two humans and pick one to live and one to die. My sister-in-law faced such a problem once. She got pregnant from her husband and it turned out to be a tubal pregnancy. Had the child been allowed to grow inside of her, it would have killed her before the baby would have been able to survive on its own. Thus, in weighing these two lives, one would have to conclude that the baby would have to die in order to save the mother’s life. What about cases of rape or incest? I have 5 daughters (yes, that was no typo) and the thought of one of them being raped is always lurking in the back of my mind. Statistically speaking, at least one of them will be before they graduate from college. If one of them should get pregnant as a result, the hard decision would be to let that child live. Pregnancy is not the extremely dangerous event of the past. Rarely do people die from giving birth. Many more die as a result of complications after an abortion. But the bottom line is that the child is innocent of any crime, so why punish it? It is a human being of intrinsic value. I’m not saying it is an easy choice and I can certainly sympathize with those who have had to make it. Perhaps they even made the wrong choice. But, God is a loving and forgiving God, who can even forgive the taking of a human life. Which is what abortion is.

  6. yes because if they didnt want kids they shoul have use condoms

  7. I don't agree with them at all.  I do think it's murder and it's totally disgusting and wrong.  But at the same time and don't think they should be stopped, because sometimes people that use protection still get pregnant.

I do however think the limit needs to be lowered to a maximum of 8 weeks.

The current limit is 24 weeks.  My friend has a baby at 24 weeks and he is still alive and well.

So actually, they are babies long before they are born.

  8. Depends on the circumstances.

  9. no the should not be stopped, a baby at like 2 months cant feel pain, and even if you think of an abortion when it can do you rele think you could handle havin a baby, you have to think of yourself, that might sounds selfish but you have to look after it, i dont think the should be stopped and its not always ur fault what if the comdom spilts thats not being irrisponable .

  10. It says that God breathed in the breath of life into a baby as soon as it's conceived, meaning He gave a baby a soul. That is totally a human being, yes it's referred to as a fetus and what not, but it's a human being. What if you hadn't done anything and people just figured that you're not a human and kill you, how would you feel? Abortion = Murder and it should be illegal, but then again, who knows what the selfish generation will do just to cover up their "mistake". Don't have s*x if you don't wanna get pregnant.

  11. its still a baby -but you can also think your stopping a baby from developing by using contraception its a baby when the sperm comes into contact with the egg-but i realy belive it shouldnt be stopped there are so many genuine reasons why a woman would decide on this option and its good also to be able to abort after the first few months because some women might not even realise there pregnant untill up to a few months

  12. I tend to agree with leigh. I think the gestation age should be dropped to 12 weeks, I think the law as it now states that you can have an abortion anytime before 24 weeks which i think is ridiculous!! Although I do think they should be exceptions in special health related circumstances (eg.. if the child would be dissabled).

  13. that is a question that can't really be answered as everyone has their opinion and i don't think they will stop it as its every-ones choice.

i don't agree with abortion if the woman just cant be bothered but in the cases of rape or life threatening i can see why they have them.

my friend had to have an abortion because if she went through with the pregnancy it would have killed her(she has a bad heart problem)

    hope it helps your studies.

i done an investigation in school and i wrote up questionnaires and passed them out and it helps with paperwork also give one to your lecturer and get their opinion.

  14. I think that a woman should have a right to choose.  I also believe that it all depends on the circumstances.   I also believe if abortions are stopped that we will see more babies dumped in garbages or dumped on someone's front step, and illegal unsafe abortions committed.  If a woman wants to get rid of her unborn baby she will find a way to do it, illegal or not.

  15. No. It would drag abortions underground.

Look at Northern Ireland - abortion is illegal there, and 5 women have died due to illegal terminations in the area since 1967.

How many women have died in England or Wales?  Zero.

  16. It's unfortunate that people think that abortion isn't snuffing out a human life.  YOU may think it's not a life inside of us, but it is very much made up of living cells.  Someone else said it well... if it's not a life, then one isn't pregnant.

It's not up to us to determine a baby's fate.  There is never a justification for the snuffing out of his/her life, regardless of when, regardless of how conceived.  In the case of rape, the baby shouldn't be punished, the rapist should.

The "it's my body" mentality is twisted.  Don't have s*x until you are ready to take on a pregnancy, should it happen.  Or, have yourself permanently sterilized before having s*x.

  17. i am personally really tired of people asking questions on abortion on yahoo answers, it is a very personal and delicate subject, and should be delt with privatly.... im not having a go at you! i am saying it annoys me when people write in saying "how do you feel on abortion?" or "should i have an abortion?" its a very personal decision.... why would you want millions of people to read it on yahoo answers???? my rant over lol

  18. If your going to ask a question about such a sensitive issue then please try showing a bit of sensitivity about how you ask the question!!!!!!!!!!!

People have to make heartbreaking decisions, that can, in turn cause a lot of unpleasant feelings (guilt) in the future.

Whether your 3, 6, 8, 12 or 26 weeks your still growing a being from day one. It is your personal opp that it is not a baby, but others will disagree strongly.

Its down to the person having the termination and that person only. Its a traumatic experience and shouldn't be considered as an easy way out.

  19. I dont think people should have abortions if they accidently fall pregnant, but i dont think abortions should be stopped though, what happens if the person was raped, or if they want to get rid of it because there is something wrong with it and they could not cope.

  20. http://www.imnotsorry.net

    otherwise google it.

  21. Yes it should be stopped! IF IT'S NOT A BABY, YOU'RE NOT PREGNANT!! And if it weren't a life, it wouldn't grow! In cases of rape there is the "day after" pill which keeps you from getting pregnant. Otherwise, there is always adoption. In cases where it is life threatening to the mother, I can understand. I can't say that I could do it myself, but never having been in that situation, I can't say that I wouldn't. But that is the only reason it should be considered. If it is "your baby and your choice" then why can I not kill my 4 year old? My child, my choice...same difference. There is too much education and birth control is too easy to get. Aside from rape there is no excuse for unprotected s*x if you are not ready to take the responsibility for your actions. Any moron can tell you that unprotected s*x can and often does lead to pregnancy. There are many many couples out there that cannot have children that would love to adopt a newborn. So why kill a baby that someone would love and give a good home to? You can try to pretty it up any way you want by calling it a "fetus" instead of a baby and all the other c**p that pro-rights people try to use to rationalize it and make it okay. It is what it is...killing an innocent child for your own selfishness. As for the "poor women" who die from trying to have an illegal abortion...well, they know the risks...just like she knew the risks of having s*x. It is sad when any human life ends, but these women made the choice to take that chance...the babies have no choice at all and these women still have a better chance of survival than the baby does. That is a lame excuse for legalized killing of innocent babies.

  22. No abortions shouldn't be stopped.

  23. I dont think so. Its your baby and its your choice, period. No more 2 it than that.

  24. should not be stopped but i agree that it depends upon the individual woman's choice and the circumstances.

    pro choice.
