Should advanced economies monitor their companies' outsourcing for environmental + human rights standards?

Hmm... good question. Part of the trouble is, so many giant corporations are truly global now. It would be hard to determine which advanced country had jurisdiction over what companies. It would be nice if the companies themselves would hold themselves to high standards, but ... then I woke up :-)

And then there's the argument that infrastructure improves in the countries to which the jobs are outsourced, which eventually improves the standard of living in those countries... not sure if I buy that...
