  1. First: Personal Flotation Device not Life Jacket. Crotch Strap? Absolutely! PFDs can be lost in white water if not secured properly.Water skiing also demands a secure PFD as spills are often violent.


  2. Llifejackets DO have a crotch strap. It's personal flotation devices (PFDs) that don't. Also a lifejacket will support you in the water with your head up and your nose out of the water so you can breath, even if you are unconscious. A PFD won't.

  4. Depends on what type and what you're using it for.  Inflatable life jacket for yachting in bad weather?  Yes.  Bouyancy aid for dinghy sailing or windsurfing?  h**l no - it restricts your movement.  Floatation for kids?  ALWAYS...  Kids BA's rarely fit properly so a crotch strap is vital.
