  1. No they shouldn't unless they have helped develop the sport or made a real accomplishment.

Half the people who compete are from "public" schools and so have had the opportunity and financial backing to to get where they are. Not trying to take away any glory from them but i think we have lots of talented people in this country who cant acheive such things as they have to work.

  2. Absolutely not.  Why should they? just because their profession happens to be sport and they get a gold medal as a result of their achievements doesn't mean they should automatically be knighted or damed!  If so, then let's make all our doctors and nurses dames for all the tireless work they do and for saving lives - they do more for our country than sportsmen.

  3. No. These awards should only be given to people who have helped to develop the sport over a number of years. The younger less experienced ones should get OBEs or MBEs possibly.

  4. why?, winning gold isn't unique, hundreds of athletes from all over the world have been doing it for over a century

  5. Only if they have won 2 golds or more in one single olympics but that is not guarenteed as if you win Gold in an event already dominated by the Britis then you can forget your KnightHood.

In most cases  Athletes are only Knighted if they achieve golds in events in which Britain have never won before or if they have broken the world record.

Steve Redgrave got Knighted becuase he won gold 5 times in each olympics.

Kelly Holmes got knighted as she was the first women from britain to win the 800m and 1500m after 100 years in the same games.

You cant just give away knighthood to every person who wins gold. Only to those who have aquired feats that no one else have.

Rebecca Adlington and chris hoy are almost certainly guarenteed knighthood as they aquired great feats and broke world records!

  6. depends how many they won

  7. what...why?

  8. No, though I do think that they should be honoured during the Queen's New Year Honours list.  The medallists who have been honoured for the first time should receive MBE's, then OBE's then CBE's.

Knighthoods and Damehoods should be reserved for those who are nearing the end of their respective careers and have contributed to their sport for longer than just this one Olympics.

  9. for what?  its thier job, should i get a knighthood for doing my job?

  10. NO!  They have wasted hours and hours of time and energy on something that in the end counts for nothing.  So someone knocks a fraction of a second off a world record?  They should be out doing something useful, not just entertaining the multitudes.  I met two paramedics in a fairly remote place in Ethiopia years ago - is anyone going to give them knighthoods?  Yet they were doing work that was a million times more valuable.

Shame on you for not thinking before you posted this question.

  11. This is a mixed bag question i mean yes they should and no they shouldnt... When Jo Jackson [ i think it was her ] told the Queen to give Rebecca Adlington a DameHood i agreed but then, Kelly Holmes only got a Damehood after her Olympic career had finished.  I believe that if your starting out and have done good then fair enough like Becky Adlington.  But bear in mind that she has much more to offer.  I think that if they come to the end of their Olympic career then maybe so.. but not too early when the Olympians are just starting!!

Thanks. xx [hope you understand lol]
