Grandfather’s c(l)ock. (A Senior Citizen’s Sonnet)

She wept the day, grandfather passed away

and raced to comfort grandma, in her grief.

She still feels shock up to this very day

His cause of death, so far beyond belief.

These two old dears were more than 95

(As frail then as an antique lacework glove?)

Not they! No, they were very much alive

But he died , in the act of making love.

At their age, foolish work, to leer and lurch.

To think they’d been performing for so long

But gently they paired as bells from the church

In on the Ding, then back out with the Dong.

He’d still have been alive, with any luck

Had it not been for that d**n Ice-Cream truck.

(Old joke put to rhyme)

  1. No they should not!!! but it is a nice one here1

  2. Poetry is what you want it to be. A sonnet can be humerous also.
