  1. my optomitrist advised against me wearing contacts at such a young age a couple of years ago, despite my maturity. apparently it can hinder the eye's development, and they can become extremely dependant on them, causing weak eyesight later on. i would stick to glasses until he becomes a teenager.

  2. if he needs glasses full time the why not....as long as he is able to take care of them. They can be quite tricky, espically for kids.

However if he doesn't need glasses full time then his eyesight may worsen from being over dependant, and wearing contacts full time, and he will have to get stronger glasses/contacts and eventually have to wear them full time.

  3. i was about that age!!  :)

  4. My son is 12 and has worn glasses for a few years. I have spoken with him and his optometrist, and both agree he is not ready for contacts. My son is also very responsible, but contacts are a big step. Depending on your son's eyesight, it might be worth waiting. When my son plays football etc, he takes his glasses off, for non-contact sports, he leaves them on. I also bought him a special frame for kids that is designed to bend and flex more than adult frames, and the lenses are not glass; it cost a bit more, but his eyes are protected and he can still be involved in games at school without problems. I will wait until he is around 15 to get contacts, if he wants them, but speak with your son and optometrist for the best advice. All the best :)

  5. yes i think he should

especially at that age...his confidence may be lowered by wearing glasses...contacts will boost his confidence and definalty make him happier

    hope i could help

  6. now, his eyes are not grown yet, the contacts will strain them

  7. If he's responsible enough to take care of them, then maybe he should give them a try.If he really wants them at that age,I say go for it.

  8. Does he need them? I got mine for my 13th birthday,(and got the pack of refills for my 14th birthday) but had to stop wearing them because I had to get bifocals. Get an exam and make sure his eye dr. gives the ok. It can give loads of confidence.

  9. If the child is responsible enough to handle them and care for them properly, I don't have a problem fitting him.  I have several 10 year-olds wearing them.  I have not seen any problems with weakness or deterioration of the vision over any of my spectacle-wearing patients.  If he is motivated to wear them and his doctor is amenable, go for it.
