  1. NO!

He could be the greatest halfback ever...he may well be a great reader of the game and a wonderful technician in the kicking game, BUT... look at some of the drama that NSW have had the last few years in Origin.

Big Willie - pissed and stupid - forging his team mates' signatures at an official signing function for the fans

Gasnier and company - THAT phone call on the way to the casino in the early hours of the morning

Broken curfews, drunken fights, incidents with fans, suggestion of drugs....

You can't add Johns to that mix.  Not if you are serious. And certainly not in the same year...

  2. Everyone is allowed one mistake,

He is still one of the Greats and has a lot to offer, he is not the first to be allowed back to sport after a drug related incident, and he wont be the last.

  3. NO way  He is a disgrace to the game.

So many people looked up to him for a long time and he has betrayed them all.  What sort of an example is he to the younger players???  If he is let back in it doesn't show that they clubs are serious about controlling drugs use.

  4. Molly r u trying 2 say that people that go out on wkds and have a good time and take E's occasionally have a drug problem? G half of aust must have a drug problem then.  His a grown man 4 *** sake let him have some fun.

  5. who's kidding who

half the people on earth use drugs

i don't think what he did was right but if it means NSW will win origin again then yes bring him in, after all he is the best player of all time

  6. just remember he was the best nrl player and the drug habit was off the field so technically he was sober during games

  7. At least he had the balls to admit he had problems.  I don't hold anything against the guy.

I agree with Paris that you'd have to be kidding yourself to refuse to believe a significant percentage of football players have alcohol and drug problems or have had at some stage.  I expect it would be at least as large a percentage as the general population, possibly higher.

All that said, he could set a much better example to youngsters now by staying away and sorting himself out in every way.  When he has, he could be a great ambassador for the game.

  8. If they want him there, and he wants to be there, I really don't see a problem with it. It'd be a lot different if he was demanding to be a part of Origin, but you have to remember that he was approached by NSWRL, and not the other way around. Nothing will change what's been done and I, personally, see this as a chance for him to right some wrongs.

I think with this whole kafuffle, we've forgotten how much he's put into the game. The players (in the end, the ones who'll be impacted by this) haven't forgotten what he's achieved on field, there is still a great deal of respect there...hey, if he can help bring the trophy and pride back down South where it belongs, then I'm all for it.

  9. Yes, why because yeh he used drugs but atleast he didnt lie about it! He is/was the greatest player in League, the up coming players will learn a lot from him..

  10. I dont understand why andrew johns has been shunned for talking ecstacy and other drugs over his career, hes just a joe blow guy who put the hard work in, his playing style was not a free flowing magic but rather an ingenious system of set plays eg. the bannana kick. His onfield performance will set his place in stone and his off field performance should not influence his future whether it be in coaching or in this instance into the blues camp especially in game culture such as the nrl where winning is what matters and hands up at a state of origin is not something to be snuffed at regardless of personal issues which he has obviously taken steps toward admitting his addiction and cleaning up his act and he is also otherwise squeky clean. The state of nsw State of Origin is in a poor state with the likes of greg bird, a young player in his own right and a lock from past experience to boot being shoved into playing five-eighth let alone vs the combination of thurston and lockyer. The combination of Jarrad Mullen and Luke Walsh in the halves is more likely in the future and they as inexperienced albiet highly talented abilities require the fine tuning only a player of andrew johns calibre can offer especially in reading the play of the ball.

  11. he shouldn't but he will because he's Andrew Johns

  12. No he shouldn't and to people that say at least he admitted his problems he got caught that is the only reason he said anything.

They are kidding themselves if they think he just said I am going to stop using drugs now without going rehab because I don't have a problem.

He is a drug addict and needs to go and get medical help like Ben Cousin did then he would have admitted he has a problem.

Hey surfie boy half the people in Australia don't have kids looking to them as role models or wear the Australian colours but if thats role model you want for Aussie kids good on you.

  13. Yes he should he is still 1 of the greatest players ever, despite what he has done, and the blues need all the help they can get

1 of the boys in my sons footy team, meet him at a footy clinic last holidays and got his signature, when he told me the story his you could see in his eyes how special this was and that it will be something he will never forget, anyone who can have that affect on children or supporters of the games deserves our respect. He should be celebrated not jeered. Again Australia has succumbed to Tall Poppy Syndrome
