Should art be institutionalized ?

Does the institutionalization of art lessen it's meaning and value by producing criteria-based artists?

Wow, you know I've never thought of that. It sounds to me like that might be true, but then it asks the question: is art defineable? And I dont really think it is. I dont think that we can put qualifications on what is considered art and what isnt because thats really in the eye of the beholder. Now, im not sure about how taking art classes changes a persons view of what is art and what isnt art, but I wouldnt think that it would limit a persons perceptions of what art is.
