So many things have happened at Yankee Stdium. The Pope visited a few times, the Yanks, concerts and so many things. For 85 years, it has been such a golden memory of baseball. Do you think they should build a new stadium?

I think so becasue this stadium is getting old and it's time to build a new one. I'm sure the Yanks are going to win at leats 20 World Serieses in the new stadium.

Do you think they should knock down the old stadium?

I think they should keep the current stadium up, as a memory of baseball. Maybe the Yanks could play ball there as a memory game, a game to remember the old stadium. Even if that doesn't happen, people could be able to go inside and see it. The most valuable thing in the current stadium are the plaques in Monument Park.

  1. This stadium is barely more than 30 years old.  The original Yankee Stadium was completely gutted and rebuilt in the mid-70's.  The Yankees actually played the 1974 and 1975 seasons at Shea because of the rebuilding.  So all of the history and memories that happened, Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, etc, all took place in a different building anyway.  This one just happens to have the same address as the old one.

The Yankees have only won 6 championships in 32 years in the new building, as opposed to 20 championships in the 50 years before they re-built it.

Besides, the "history" of Yankee Stadium has no impact whatsoever on the revenue sharing dollars that the Yankees have to pay to MLB, which are then distributed to the teams in the smaller markets.  The only concern the greedy Steinbrenners had when deciding whether to build a new stadium was the fact that they could deduct the cost of building it from their revenue and not have to pay as much in revenue sharing.

  2. It depends on the location of the stadium, the capacity, the abiltity to add on, the cost of renos vs. new, and the team's success.  I don't like the idea of tearing down Yankee stadium either, just doesn't seem right.  However, the College World Series got a new contract to stay in Omaha because the city is going to build a new stadium.  If the stadium wouldn't have been built, the CWS might have left town!

  3. I would like to see yankee stadium stay too. but.....let me put it this way.....unless it is turned into part museum then what is the point of keeping it? i mean if it is going to just sit there and take up space and not have any tours, or things to see, then why not knock it down. however, if they would still give tours or have things like museums inside, then i say they shoulda kept it there.

  4. I think should cities should have new stadiums but are paid for by the rich owners instead of middle class fans.

I have been to 25+ stadiums and the worst stadiums I have been to are RFK, Shea, Metrodome, Tropicana Field and Pro Player.  RFK is done last year, Shea is done after this year and Minneapolis will have a new one in 2010.

The newer stadiums have better seating, are more wheelchair accessible and generally look better.

The old, old stadiums (Tiger Stadium, Yankee Stadium, etc) do have lot of memories and history, but they need/needed to be replaced. Those memories will always live on. They need to be knocked down due to liability reasons since they are falling apart.

  5. add ons, like more seats but not a new stadium unless they had the money like the yankees and just felt like it
