  1. they should do it without question. He has fought for our king (queen nowadays) and country.

  2. no

    well said Kevin N!

  3. australia had a state funeral for the last WW1 Digger and it was appreciated by everyone

  4. Yes I think we should.  No-one can begin to imagine what those young men went through and my grandmother lost her younger brother ans missed him all of her life.

  5. I agree with Kevin as I have read that some of the last survivors did not want this to happen and it should only be done if he and the family want it to happen. However, it would be a corporate way of say thank you to all the men and women that have died in the service of their country either in the Armed Forces or as civilians and this cannot be a bad thing.

  6. h**l yes, but I bet another WWI survivor will step forward... there's not that many anymore, but a lot of former soldiers of the World Wars were so overwhelmed they practically put it out of their minds, and they don't make themselves known.

But either way, yes there should be a state funeral... it would be symbolic of "closing the door on an earlier age". Thank God warfare isn't like that anymore.

  7. I don't see any reason why not. If we can have state funerals for the politicians that start the wars or someone who attains status because of their ancestry caused by an accident of fate, why can't we remember the sacrifice of a lost generation?

  8. The Last Tommy has stated that he does not want a state funeral on his death.  We should respect his wishes.

  9. Yes!We should honur a brave man!

  10. Most definetely. Any Soldier that fights for his/her country is a real hero. The same goes for nurses and doctors, that save people's lives every day, and teachers that give children an education.

Footballers/Race car drivers/golfers and the like get paid staggering amounts of money for what!!!!!!!! Doing something they enjoy!!! Disgusting, makes me sick, greedy b******s!!

What about Doctors and Nurses that save lives.

What about people that fought for their country, were prepared to die for what they believed in.

I think you should start a petition on the 10 Downing Street web site, and forward it to everyone. I would definetely sign it.

  11. yeah - why not? - good idea

  12. What a lovley notion, I think you should contact someone to make that happen.

Why not starat with your local councillor?

  13. it would be a good idea but it probably won't happen. then again if the gov. have any decency they would take down the statues in london of the generals that were in charge in world war 1 that were weak men

  14. Great idea: as long as his family are ok about it of course.

  15. Without doubt.

  16. There is only 3 known UK veterans left from WW1. There has been talk for the last few years about this and also having them buried next to the Unknown Soldier in Westminster Abbey. However, at the end of the day it is up to the Veteran and his family as to how he wishes to be buried.
