Question:

Should businesses be responsible for verifying valid American citizenship?

I've read where businesses say it isn't "their responsibility" to act as immigration filters.

But businesses have been incurring the additional expense of running background and credit checks on potential employees for about a decade now. And there is currently a "Social Security number check system" which they could be taking advantage of that doesn't cost one red cent.

Why can't they run citizenship checks?

  1. It is absolutely up to businesses. What sort of person doesnt check credentials before allowing them onto their property? No green card AND ss# = get the h**l out of my office!!!

  2. im in total agreeance with "rob m"

  3. In my business I check out all employees and their background for the protection of my business as well as the protection of my country. This is what smart business people do, not just because it is the law not to hire immigrants.Remember you as a business are responsible for your hiring practices.

  4. We are and the system the government provides to check "status" is a crock . . .
