Question:

Should by toddler me on a sippy?

I have a two year old daughter and I've tried to get her to take a sippy for months now. She doesn't want anything to do with it and won't drink from it. My husband seems to think that we should just take her bottle away completely and force her to take a sippy cup. I would like her to be off the bottle but when she won't drink from her sippy is really hard not to give her a bottle back. So my question is when is an appropriate time to wean toddlers off the bottle? Should she already be?

  1. You can try those Nuby sippy cups. They have the silicone soft spout so they are easier to transition your toddler to a harder spout sippy cup. They are real chaep too, around a dollar for one at Walmart or Target. Good luck.

  2. I have had my 2 and 1/2 daughter on a sippy cup for about a year now, but to put her to bed I still give her a bottle, that is a habit I dont know how to break.

But she just took right to the sippy.

What if you took your daughters bottle and poured it into the sippy right in front of her so she could see it was the same thing, then try to give it to her.

Not sure that will work, just an idea.

What about just giving her a small plastic cup with no lid and just put a tiny bit of juice or water in it and see if she likes to do that,

my neice who is 2 yrs old likes to drink out of a regular cup, and is actualy very good at it.

I would really work on it if I were you, most 2 yr olds I know are using sippy cups, but every child is different. I do think its time to work on it tho.

If you give her one and she says no, I would tell her there were no more bottles and she just might cave in.

    Good Luck!

  3. I was told that at a year old, they should be off the bottle. Maybe you could try one of those sippy cups with the straws. Kids seem to get excited when they get straws.

  4. Who really cares?  I have had four--2 off the bottle by 2--one had it till 4--now my almost 2 year old still gets his bottle--hates the sippy and will have his bubba til he is done.  Seriously--why so many rules on such a short time frame in a life?  How many kindergartners bring a bottle to school????  None--lol--they get over it in their own time.   Think about it and don't worry kids all grow up-don't stress about little things like a bottle--

  5. She should def. be off a bottle for sure. I'm in favor of tough love and doing what your husband says. No more bottles (mine were off at or around 12 mos.). Only sippy cups. And at the table, do cups. Eventually, she'll have to drink. Maybe have her choose a sippy cup at the store so she feels more a part of the situation. But she's really too old for a bottle, so be strong and take control...

  6. She's old enough for a cup.  Kids really don't need sippy cups.  It's just the convenience that parents like cause they don't spill.  Not sure about other states, but in Arizona sippy cups aren't allowed in the 2 year old rooms in pre-schools or day cares.  Kids do really fine with a small cup half filled.  It take just a few trys till they learn how to hold and use a cup.  Kids love to use straws.  You can find cups with built in straws or just let her use a straw.  If you want to slowly wean her off the bottle then a good idea is to make sure she only gets the 4 ounce ones.  When it's empty and she still wants more then tell her she needs to use a cup for another drink.  You also might want to start giving her just water in her bottle and milk in her cup. Good luck with the transition.

  7. yes she should be on a sippy
