Should calzaghe fight Pavlik instead of Jones Jr?

With Calzaghe claiming he will only fight one more fight it seems a toss up between Jones Jr and Pavlik. Jones Jr seems the to be the one Calzaghe wants to fight. However am I the only one who thinks Pavlik is the real challenge for Joe as Jones Jr ould not bring any more recognition?

  1. yes

  2. Yes I wish he would. If he does not fight Pavlik, and beats Jones and then retires, there will always be that what if. Like Mayweather has with Cotto right now. If Calzaghe retires without fighting a Jermaine Taylor or Kelly Pavlik, he will never be a legend that he is capable of being. If he fights Roy Jones instead of one of them young fighters that would be a coward move I think. By the way he was talking after the Hopkins fight, he sounded like he will fight the older once great fighter in Roy Jones. Defiantly should fight Pavlik in order to be recognized as a great fighter.

  3. That depends on what he wants the world to see.  If he desires the world to see him as a boxer who likes to pug with great fighters who have already past their prime then he should fight Jones.  If he wants us to see him as one of the greats who fought the best fighters of this particular era then he should fight Pavlik.  I don't think this particular Ghost is friendly either.

  4. RJJ is a bigger name than pavlik and calzaghe is going to fight Roy and personally I don't think calzaghe could handle Roy

  5. Well, if Calzaghe is going to go out, I think he should do it with a bang. Jones would not give Calzaghe as much creditials as a younger and more threatening fighter, like Kelly Pavlik, Jermaine Taylor or Chad Dawson, all of them being 30 years old and under. Jones is viewed as a shell of his former self. I do agree that Calzaghe should try his luck against Pavlik rather than Jones. I'd be happy to se Calzaghe take on Taylor, but I think Taylor needs tune up fight first to boost his confindence.

  6. Joe....doesn't want the "0".......to Go

    Therefore, he won't fight Pavlik.

  7. pavlik would be better but i dont think hed want to fight calzaghe he seems to want a few easy defences by the looks of things

  8. if he wants to leave on top. RJJ

  9. if he wants to leave with alot of money RJJ. If he wants to fight the best their is right now then PAVLIK

  10. no offense but i think either of the fighters would beat Calzaghe, as far as the fight with bhop went, this guy is freaken weak... All he was doing was slapping, and there is no way he will hurt anyone doing that, especially a "boxer" like RJJ. As far as Pavlik goes, he's a hard hitter and would knock out Calzaghe.... so IMHO Calzaghe is a chump

  11. I hate to be so honest with Calzaghe and Pavlik fans, but Roy Jones would still beat both of these guys.

Roy isn't what he was, thats a given, but the only guys he'll have trouble with at this point in his career are naturally bigger fighters, like Tarver, Dawson, or David Haye - those guys will have an advantage because Roy's physical abilities no long give him the ability to outweigh the "weight."

The plain truth is there isn't one area either Calzaghe or Pavlik are superior to Roy - and before Pavlik fans start talking about his power, remember Roy Jones KOd lightheavies, super middleweights, and all but 2 middleweights he faced...he's the bigger puncher.

He may be 39, but there isn't any other fighter who can completely dominate Felix Trinidad, knock him down twice, and basically everyone just says, "well, yeah, of course he did that."  If Calzaghe had beat Tito it would have been proclaimed as the greatest win in the history of British boxing or some nonsense like that - I mean he beat Jeff Lacy and I think its now government mandated week long holiday vacation..

  12. I think either way it will be a great fight.   I think Jones has restored his swagger & is still the faster fighter & I don't know if Joe can hurt him or if he will be able to hit him.   On the other hand Pavlik would be two undefeated fighters & Pavlik at his prime.   If he beat Pavlik it would solidifiy Calzaghe's legacy in history.  If he beats Jones & isn't impressive then people will still question his place in history.   I think he should fight both he's only 36 & he could fight Jones in November & Pavlik next year in March or April.

  13. I THINK EITHER ONE SHOULD FIGHT JONES JR TO PUT HIM IN RETIREMENT.

  14. Oh Sure
