  1. yup, because sometimes there is emergency so the parents can contact their son easily. dont need to waste to much time going to the office.

  2. No, The school has phones. I think a child under the age of 17 do not need a cell phone.Unless they travel out of town for sports.

  3. I feel that childrens phone should only go with them to school once they go to secondary as they normally are further from home.

  4. yess

  5. absolutely, but it should be turned off during the school day.  The only reason I can see for a child to have a cell phone is for safety & emergencies, so what is the point in leaving it at home?

  6. No you shouldn't. I was in the 6th grade like 3 or 4 years ago. (now in the 9) and I found that it was a big distraction in the school. People kept texting and prank calling people. Some even cheated by taking pics of thy're study guid and using it on the text.

  7. Yes, but not turn it on until after school is out.

I feel more at ease knowing my child can get in touch with me in case she has an emergency.

  8. Yes and no. They should be able to bring it to school if they need to contact their parents for a ride home at the end of the day or stuff like that, but during class hours the phone should remain OFF (not on silent, OFF) and in the kid's locker.

  9. I don't think they need it during school.  If there is something that happens at school hours the school has a phone to contact you.  But if they are old enough and go out with friends then I think they should have one in case they need to get a hold of the parents.

  10. no

  11. Seriously....what real reason is there for a kid to NEED a cell phone in school anyway? I think they should be banned in schools. The schools have phones if there's an emergency and the kids need to phone mom and dad anyway, so I don't see that as a plausible argument.

Where I live, our school district does not allow cell phones to be turned on during school hours, so why take them?? Too many people have used their phones to cheat on tests and assignments and texting has taken the place of the old school note passing too. Way too distracting. The adults in the school should be the only ones allowed to carry a cell phone with them for those "just in case" moments.

  12. Our school allows kids to bring their cell phones, as long as they are turned off and stay in their backpacks during school hours.  If the rule is broken, they are no longer allowed to take the cell phone, the cell phone is taken away and a parent must pick it up.

My 11 yo son brings his if he is walking home or going to a friend's house, in case of emergency he can get ahold of me or his Dad.

  13. as long as you tell the children that the phone is only to be use if there is an emergency and not to talk to friends

  14. Yeh, because having a mobile means you can contact them when you need to. Trivial things, like a hair cut they'd forgotton about, or you won't be home when they get off the bus so they key is here are easier to communicate, rather than them getting confused. It also helps THEM- say they have a netball match they fogot, they can tell you they need picking up, they missed the bus, they left their violin at home.

I mean, sure there's a limit to when tjhey should be on, and you have to trust you child to turn it off duing lessons etc. and there's a limit to the age. My youngest is eleven and walks home from school so a phone is practical if it's raining, but I'd rather she used it less. My middle daughter is 14, and I'd rather she bothered to use her phone more, as it's always out of credit or out of battery. That's the problem in my opinion- we've grown so used to mobiles we're rekiant on them, and whilst I think taking them to school is a helpful thing from the view of the parents, having mobiles and taking them everywhere may not be so good.

  15. hand phone?  Do you mean cell phone?   Sure..if it is needed for the child to keep in touch with a parent.  This only applies to before and after school of course.  Cell phones should be OFF during school hours.

  16. No, if they need a phone for an emergency go to the office.

  17. No, children in grade school for the most part do not need cell phones. If there is an emergency the school has phones.

  18. That depends on whether they will need it before they can go home and fetch it after school. In any case it should be off during school hours.

  19. NO!  children should not even have phones!

  20. yes they should be aloud to.
