  1. Yup that what i think

  2. No. Unless they go places by themselves and need it for a good reason

  3. Yes, because if they walk home from school they should have a way of contacting their parents. But they should have it turned of while they are in the school.

  4. Kids that age don't even need one. Everywhere they go there is a pay phone.

  5. elementary no middle not the 6th graders but 7th grade yea

  6. I think not. I know my kids will not have cell phones that young. Not until they have a job and can afford their own bill.

  7. Nope, no reason at this point.

Although, I do feel that if a child in Middle school is always bullied, give them a phone so they can call home if they need mom or dad.

  8. Elementary is WAY too young. 7th grade is a pretty good age to get a cheaper phone, maybe one of those phones that you can lock into calling certain numbers. But it should always be turned OFF (not silent, OFF) during school, and it should be kept away in a locker, pocket, or purse.

  9. Middle school - YES! There are more activities and other issues that could come up and their safety could be jeopardized.

Elementary - it would depend. If there was ever a time they were walking alone and something could happen that put their safety at risk - then yes!

  10. ya def. its their choice to lose it but it should be turned off

  11. i think No, but they do have the cell phones that you can lock and only dial out 5 numbers and those 5 numbers can only dial in. i think that is a good idea, in case you live somewhere unsafe which ius pretty much everywhere now a days!

  12. Yes, but it should be used only for emergencies or if their parents need to reach them.

  13. yes if off and in bags of not they are held by teacher till end of the day

  14. No I see no reason for it, they are at the schools all day and there are school phones to use in emergency situations.  If they are doing extra activities after school then i can see them having an emergency pre-paid that stays in the office locked up until after school hours so they aren't tempted to use it while in school.  I don't agree with all these kids in school carrying around cellphones in class just to look cool and end up texting people during classroom time.

  15. Yes i think so. I am starting Kindergarten Tommorow so i wouldn't know.

  16. elementary? no.

middle school kids should be able to have them but only for emergency.

  17. Carrying a phone does NOT make your child safe to walk alone - the first thing an attacker will do is take it off them!

If you don't feel your child is safe from attack, the phone does not make them safer. Quite the opposite - they may be attacked for the phone!

But there are situations where a child might need one. My nine year old has one in case his big sister misses the bus home, so he can call me to come cross him over the busy road.

  18. i say yes.  we have a school here that the teachers can carry guns.  if teachers need to carry guns, then students need to have phones.

    remember columbine.

obviously if the child is to young to understand how to use the cell phone in an emergency then it is not neccessary.  mine will all have them when i feel that they can comprehend the reason they have them

  19. Elementary no.  But, middle school yes.  Most schools now have cell phone policies some of which don't allow the phones to be out when school is going on , but before or after is okay.  I have found it useful when my daughter was in middle school if a practice was running late, got out early, she needed to know where I was if I was late, etc.  Some school offices are okay with the kids using the office phone, but we have been at other schools where the secretaries are down right mean about it.  I feel more secure with her having a way to reach me without depending on other people to do it. We have rules about how much she can talk, etc. But, I probably have one of the few teenagers in the world who does not like to talk on the phone.

  20. No.

  21. I think those special ones that are pre-programmed are a fantastic idea. They allow you to program 4 numbers and it can only call those numbers, each button is a number. I will be getting one for my daughter when she is in middle school in a few years. As for elementary school, I dont see the need, they should be with you or a trusted friend not off on their own at that age, so they shouldn't be hard to get a hold of. But for a 12 year old who walks to and from school and has a little more independence, yes I think a cell phone is a good idea.

  22. I think so. I think that they carry them just in case of an emergency. Especially, the ones that walk home from school.

  23. Absolutely, it is a safety thing, they can call you whenever they need you....and you never know when they will need it, it's only 10 bucks extra a month, not a huge expense, and peace of mind is worth it.

  24. Yes they should as long as they are off during class and in their bookbags. I know some people don't agree with kids having cell phones but I feel he's more safe because you never know who could be following your kid home from the bus stop or God knows everything else that goes through my mind. He's not allowed to call any friends. he doesn't really care to, it's just for emergencies.
