I have just got new contacts and they differ from my glasses by .25. My prescription is 1.50 for glasses and 1.75 for lenses can anyone tell me if this is OK because I dont want to open them without finding out, ps my opticians is closed now before anyone tells me to ask them. I will ask them tomorrow morning though.

  1. yes thats fine. A contact lense actually sits on the eye, whereas glasses sit a bit further away... so you may get a different prescription to compensate for this.

  2. Because contacts sit at a different distance from your eyes than glasses, yes, it's completely normal and expected to have a slightly different prescription.

  3. They should be the same prescription.  My contacts and glasses are the same. Call the optician tomorrow before you open the box.

  4. If you are long sighted- have a plus in front of the lens prescription- then yes. Or, if you are short sighted and have a small amount of astigmatism (cyl in your glasses prescription)

Glasses and Contact lens prescriptions do vary slightly, don't panic, just do what you said and just ask your optician to explain it to you. They know what they are doing, it takes many years at university to be able to fit contact lenses.

  5. NO they don't have to be the same.  My prescriptions are different.  My glasses prescription is higher than my contacts.  My dr. balanced out my prescription for my contacts therefore I only need one box for each eye.  My prescriptions are .25 difference as well.

  6. Yah, it is fine. No problem at all.

  7. You may have a 0.50 astigmatism correction that you don't know about in your glasses prescription.

If that is the case, then half of that 0.50 would be added on to the sphere power for contacts, making them a 1.75 , which would be right.

If your glasses definately are just a - 1.50 sphere , then you should call them tomorrow...
