Should cops really be aloud to use tasers ?

ok i kno alot of pplz will say there not lethal would u rather have a gun shot in ur back? well were not talking about guns are we? i believe cops shouldn't be aloud to use tasers b cuz alot of pplz are dyin cause the tasers are stoppin there hearts cause they have bad hearts or so forth no cop knows who the person there tasering so they have no idea if they cant take the voltage or not i just read an article that since the law passed about teasers precisely 789 pplz have died from the shocking and only 1589 pplz have bean tasered and another 256 were injured or wounded and another 148 came close to dyin and all those pplz had weak hearts

Good thinking!  Police Officers should go back to beating people into submission with batons like we used to do before we had Tasers!

Volts don't kill, amps do. And it takes about 3-7 amps to stop the human heart. The amps a Taser uses are measured in milliamps. But I won't bother with the technical aspects. With your typing skills, you wouldn't understand anyway.

Get your facts straight before you sound off like some expert on a topic you know nothing about. Spend some time learning how to spell, type and communicate in writing before worrying about a topic you know nothing about. At this time there are no documented deaths caused by an application of a Conducted Energy Device. (Taser is a brand name of a C.E.D.)  The people who had death or serious life threatening injuries after a C.E.D. application most likely would have had the same reaction after an extended physical confrontation.  Its called Manic Exhaustive Syndrome.

You are so smart, and such a good speller. Apparently you must have taken a few whacks to the head from an ASP baton, because you seem to have suffered some brain damage. Tasers are not dangerous, people who don't exercise and use drugs in combination with fighting police will cause themselves to go into cardiac arrest. Many, many, many officers and instructors have been hit with a taser during training. Some officers have taken a hit on the street from another officer who accidentally caught them with the probes. Haven't heard of an officer being killed because he was shot by a taser.

Police Officers aren't the only ones who have tasers. There are quite a bit of people who have them that aren't officers.

If those people who have bad hearts, don't want to get tased, then I suggest they stop running from the police when they are caught, and fighting them, and resisting arrest. I also suggest that they don't do anything to mess with the law if they don't want the potential harm of a taser. Simple answer. Don't mess with the law. And if you choose to, don't run from the police when you get caught.

I recommend living a life on the right side of the law. :-) It's easy as pie to obey. You just have to 'choose' to.

no. i think they abuse their power. they act like they have no time to play with your and pulll out their taser unnecessarily. i believe they should use their pepper spray or w/e it is first, and if that is not enough, then taser gun is allowed

Okay, you need to do more research.  There have been no deaths due to the shocking involved with Tasers.  There have been just over 200 people who died while in custody and the Taser was used to take them into custody, but they died from "excited delirium" brought on by drug usage and high adrenaline levels.  Also, there have been more than 10,000 people that have been Tasered to date.  

Tasers have saved more people from serious injuries or death than you can imagine.  Without them police would be forced to use batons, fists, flashlights, or firearms.  All of these would result in either the suspect or the cop being hurt.

I think your question has poor grammar, bad spelling, and is only being used to try and scare people about Tasers.

Tasers haven't killed anyone, ever. Please cite the source for your figures...in the US tasers are deployed 100s of times a day.

Taser has NEVER lost a wrongful death lawsuit, nor EVER settled out of court with a dead criminal's family regarding the criminal's death.

The only people who have ever died anywhere near a taser deployment are folks whacked out on PCP, Coke or other illegal substances.

I've been tased many, many times and I never died...oh yeah I'm not a junkie.

Maybe people shouldn't

a) get high

b) commit crime

c) try to fight the cops

Then the issue of tasers and criminal junkies dying wouldn't be an issue.

People die from "excited delirium" they would have died whether or not they were tased or not.

You are the absolute worst speller I have ever seen in Y!A.  For instance would you prefer that police use a tazer quietly?  As of today 5 people have died due directly to the electric shock from a tazer and all of these people had heart issues.  What should a cop do just let this moron kill him and others?  Or would you be happier if the officer shot them with his gun?  There would be a lot more dead people.

So maybe people with bum hearts should behave them self.  When you commit a crime you takes your chances and live with the consequences.

If a cop is using a taser that is one step down from using a gun.  A cop isn't going to taser just anyone, it will be a situation where some kind of force is needed, (such as resisting arrest).  If I were in that situation, I would rather take my chance with a taser then with a gun.

Ah, I believe that tasers should be aloud as they are an excellent, almost always non-lethal way to stop criminals. I would rather have a police officer abuse taser privileges than gun privileges. Plus in order to use a taser they have to be tasered so it is not as if they are unaware of the feeling.

Those with heart conditions would be well off to choose a better career than that of a criminal.

Police should not be allowed to use weapons that civilians are not allowed to own. That merely invites corruption and abuse of power.  In my state, I cannot own a taser, so neither should police.  If it's acceptable for them to use it to stop violent criminals, then I should be able to use it in self-defense to stop a violent attack.  I fail to see how one can argue against civilian use of tasers.
