Should countries be taking steps to dissuade people from having a lot of kids?

The planet is already too populated to sustain our current way of life in the long run baring any new technological advances. Instead of giving tax breaks for more kids, they should have to pay extra tax.

  1. I don't think they should have to pay extra tax, but I think the people who are on welfare and who literally get extra money in their check for popping out baby after baby should be investigated, and dissuaded from being birthing machines in order to get free money. If you can't afford one kid there's no reason to have 5 more.

  2. It is a good question.

It touches on religion, morality, socialology, and science and more.  Logically speaking areas of the world where people are out pacing their local resources to support themselves should either limit births (ie. China) or enforce relocation.  Otherwise all will suffer.

However, the good news is that the World's population is beginning to show signs of leveling off.  Many modern industrial countries now are actually declinning in population.  As societies become more wealthy and educated they have a tendancy of having low birth rates.

It is estimated that between 50-100 years the World population growth will slow tp a trickle or stop.

  3. i heard recently that several countries.....australia, japan, russia to name a few are begging people to have more kids and paying them to do so b/c they need to sustain their current population levels.

However, some populations definately need to cut down on the baby making......
