I'm curious what everyone thinks. Should countries in Africa become a political and economic union? I'm on the fence about the subject. In 2002 the OAU reformed into the AU. They are trying to create something similar to the European Union. Their purpose is to create African parliament. Already, there has been change. The AU is the reason behind all of these changes. They are now calling it the African Unity Affairs and eventually want to name their union the United States of Africa. What do you think about this? I'm kind of for it, as the AU's purpose is much different than that of the OAU. It is a very initiative group. For a lot of people Africa's biggest problem is their remains of colonial empires. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, things have been changing around the world in politics and economics. What do you think? Should the coutnries of Africa stay seperate countries or become one union? I'd like to hear some opinions.

  1. i think they should improve their economy

  2. I believe African countries are too diverse. They have been squabbling among themselves for centuries. A few might the cut, but you have the warlord or dictator led countries that would be in contention for more power and money for their leaders pockets. There may be some that could unite into coalitions that could agree to cooperate in this endeavor; but the very poor nonindustrilized country's' roles must be taken into consideration if they are to be included.

The United States of Africa? I think not for a while yet.

  3. It's like asking Mexico, America, and Canada to join a union.  Of course Mexico would love to do that.  Just like that example, the poor countries have more to gain than the wealthy countries.  It's always hard to have countries join a union because of different benefits.
