  1. No, I don't think so. The fact is, when out on the track, the greyhounds want to run and chase that furry robotic thing on the rail. If they didn't want to run or were too scared to, they'd stay in the starting boxes, or run terrified about the track, not chase the pretend rabbit/lure on the rail. Besides, this is what greyhounds are-sighthound, bred to chase what they see. Scent hounds, like a bloodhound hunts their prey by smelling where they've been and following the scent trail. Did you know that here in Australia we have cane toad racing?

  2. Who ya calling douchebag, douchebag?

I don't think it's a good idea to come on the horse racing board and insult us.

Barbaro's injury is a sad fact of the sport...  horses sometimes hurt themselves while they're running.  I wish there was a way to prevent it, but there's not.  We have made ways to limit injuries through the use of synthetic surfaces and we have a lot of rules about what drugs the horses are allowed to take and things so that trainers can't numb the horse so much that the horse runs through an injury and makes the injury worse.  Horses like to run... it's what they do...  watch any race where the horse drops the rider when breaking out of the gate...  unless stopped by an outrider, I guarantee that horse runs all the way to the finishline and is probably at some point at or near the lead.  I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean that the horse hates what he is doing.  I love horses and I love racing and I was devastated by Barbaro's death.  Sorry if you can't understand that.

Sorry to the question asker for not answering your question.  I don't know enough about dog racing to answer your question.  I think my mom told me years ago that an animal rights magazine that she gets did an article about dog racing that said that it's abusive and said what they do to the dogs, but I really don't remember it enough to make any kind of informed statement on the subject.  Apologies.
