Question:

Should equal rights and discrimination laws be extended to cover the polling booths?

On British news channels we are being shown clips of Americans openly admitting that they will never vote for Obama because of the colour of his skin. Now the presidency is a job just like any other and if an employee stated that a candidate wasn't allowed to fill the position because of their colour they would be sued and the candidate would get the position anyway. Should people who are openly racist, sexist and prejudiced have their voting rights removed?

  1. Yes they should, one law should be for all.

  2. It is already patently against the law to discriminate in the hiring process in the USA. The chances of any employer openly admitting to bias is very low [though he/she MAY hold such bias].

Employees have no role in the hiring process UNLESS they are part of the selection process...and then the same laws apply.

As for voting....one can vote for whomever they choose, regardless of personal bias.

  3. You just said it Your RIGHTS...Under the law you may express anything you like. As an employer, I may employ anyone I wish. So the answer would be no. This is The land where you can choose to make up your own mind , whether you thoughts be ridicules or not. as long as you do not harm anyone else, then so be it. That is how it works...That is not to say I agree with it...

  4. Well, I understand what you are saying and it doesn't sound like such a bad idea. Seems like some people here may be getting a bit defensive. The one thing I just can't understand..........Obama is half caucasian. Do the racists forget about this little fact? His father left and he was raised by his midwestern mother & grandparents. He mentions his mother often and you can tell they were close. I would bet he identifies just as much with his "caucasian-ness" ( if not more ) as he does the rest of him.

  5. This is EXACTLY why you will never make it in America...you have far too many pre-conceived ideas of what our country is about & how things work.  We have FREEDOM & I'm afraid you will NEVER be able to understand the US or the American way of life.   Blacks do the same thing, but you aren't talking about it because your Media doesn't discuss it.

It's NOT the same as being an employer OR an employee.  Becoming a CIVIL SERVANT is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT "CHOICE" than becoming an employee of a private enterprise.

Edit:  On a personal note, I find the man disgusting NOT because he is black, but because he refers to himself as an AFRICAN AMERICAN, rather than an AMERICAN of African descent.  It speaks volumes to his AGENDA....the BLACK AGENDA that wants to take America to a place of making non Africans suffer for some sort of displaced anger regarding the slaves.  Whites are becoming the minority & we don't appreciate having that shoved down our throats due to our skin color either.  We have a LOT of racial tension going on in America that no one seems to be addressing.  We are all equal under the law & the constitution.

Obama set himself apart when he called himself an AFRICAN first.  He should have called himself an AMERICAN...now it's too late for any of that.  He made his bed & he can live with that.  Perhaps the next time a person of mixed race runs, they will think about how many of us also had ancestors that came to America to be free & we all call ourselves AMERICANS.  I am of Irish & Russian Descent...I am a 2nd generation American & PROUD OF IT.

MANY of the older black people dislike the Obama's because they also see the 60's "danger logic" at work again that will force one culture to HAVE to go against another due to hatred that is fueled by the media, the press, & the pulpit.

  6. Of course not. The USA is a democracy. That's why I'm not voting for him-he grew up in a resort (Hawaii) ,never wanted for anything. Twenty years with the racist Rev. Wright, Obama said he wasn't aware of  his (Wright's) racism? Cut me a break.

Google Democracy. Also, "freedom of speech."

  7. No one takes away our voting rights, I thought we made that clear to Cornwallis in Yorktown. The British, you and Susie S. ALL wish you had a country like ours.

  8. Well, then most blacks would be disqualified since 90% of them vote for the black candidate when given the choice.

  9. You can't deny that racism still exists in the US. And some people will not vote for him as he is black. However he is the son of a white woman, and his white grandfather and grandmother raised him. He did not even meet his biological father till he was about 10 and that was only for a month. Then he never saw him again. What does the color of one's skin go to do with anything. But some people are red necks and racist and you will never convince them otherwise. Just as some woman would have voted for Clinton as she was a woman, and some would not have voted for her because she was a woman. A person should be judged on their issues and not on their skin color and gender.

  10. I don't agree with the racists and I hate the bigots and creeps that try and manipulate the system, but I will fight to my dieing breath to defend their right to vote. That is the core of the American system. It may be imperfect but it is our system.   Go Obama!

  11. Like Colon Powell once said" Only in America"   Land of the free. God Bless America

  12. wow this is a really good question. well if it were up to me, they would have them taken away. it is impossible to make a good informed decision if all you can see is the color of someones skin or s*x. but since america is "land of the free"(i said that sarcastically) people have the right to express how they feel as long as they are not physically harming anyone.  so they are allowed to be ignorant idiots.

  13. No.Unless you are sent to prison for a felony charge you have the right to vote in America!! This country was made on racist people who first drove the indians off their own land. Not every white American is racist.People are still entitled to their own view of others, just not allowed to speak out loud about it if the color of skin is a put down.  Poppy

  14. Good question ! !   Answer   :  Wouldn't it be nice if it would. . . but our country doesn't work that way, as you can tell by some answers above.  Some one once told me when I was young that people come in boxes . . .all shapes and sizes and colours.  You have to open that box to see what they are like.  See if you want to be a friend or not.  You can't judge by the box !  Well, I have see plenty of racism in my time, toward blacks, and people with handicaps, and g**s and lesbians, and people belonging to one political party or the other, and I'm sure there are more !  I have no time for these people ! they won't even go near the box much less touch it !  I pity them, they don't know what they are missing !  And I'm quick to anger against anyone who judges without looking in the box !  I hate racism in any form ! !

  15. It would never work.  You have to register to vote but your vote is anonymous.  The racist, sexist, and prejudiced would just lie.
