Should farmers grow enormous food?

Do you think that large vegetables and fruit is the future of the food market? A cherry the size of an apple or an ear of corn the size of a watermelon? How would you purchase these in the store? Would you purchase these at all?

  1. No, I wouldn't.  A large fruit or veggie would spoil just as fast as a normal-sized one so what's the point in paying extra for gigantic produce?  I'm just one person, I can't eat all that.  And anyway why would you want to eat one giant piece of produce when you could have a variety of smaller ones?

No, I don't think they're the future cause people are lazy and I don't see them lugging bowling ball sized produce to their cars.

You can buy freakishly large produce right now that wasn't grown under normal conditions down on the farm - and  it's bland!  :P   I don't think farmers can normally grow that size of produce, you have to cheat to get it to that size.

I'll stick with the normal-sized and normally grown fruits and veggies God put into nature for us, thanks.

  2. I would say no.  I was born and raised in the Midwest.  My parents always put in a garden every year.  One of my chores was to tend that garden, so I am very familiar with vegetables.

When we moved to California, I couldn't believe the difference.  Farmers use growth hormones and can get 2 crops per year.  The vegetables are also tasteless.

To get enormous food, plants would have to be genetically altered and grown using hormones.  I don't like the idea of either.
