Should fast food establishments get rid of drive-thrus?

From a business and customer service standpoint, I think drive-thrus are horrible. As a manager of a fast-casual establishment, I find that it ends up costing more money in the long run in labor and makes people wait too long. One person that gets one hamburger or a drink has to wait for the person that ordered 4 or 5 value meals. I notice the smart regulars at my place stop going through the drive-thru. I know about all that pulling ahead stuff, but honestly, that defeats the point and can only go so far.

I think restaurants should eliminate the drive-thru from a service standpoint. It's harder on the workers, the labor and not really that great for customers. There's also a health benefit too, in making people walk inside.

  1. No I honestly think it's good for bussiness

  2. No! Drive Thrus are awesome!!!!!

  3. I have never worked at a fast food restaurant. I do know that the drive thru serves as convenience. Convenience for say a mother with a van load of kids that if went inside would be all over the place. Altho not every drive thru is quick its supposed to serve as a time saver. They wont get rid of the drive thru simply because of competition. Competition is what started the drive thru. McDonald's started one then other businesses saw a competitive opportunity an took it.

  4. As a customer, i love drive thrus.  There are occasional times where the line takes forever, but most of the time i find them to be very speedy.  I love drive thrus, i never go inside to order unless i am going to eat with friends.

  5. No, they make money with  it, otherwise they would not continue to exist.

  6. I think we should keep drive thrus.  They can be very convenient like someone else said.  The lines aren't always long.  What I do if I'm in a hurry is check out the drive thru first.  If the line of cars is short, i'll go through it.  If the line seems long and slow, i'll park the car and order my food "to go" inside.  If people didn't like drive thrus or thought they were inconvenient, they wouldn't use them...but apparently, a lot of people drive through them...thats why I say keep em.

  7. h**l no!

  8. If you have two restaurants in the same vicinity, one has a drive thu and the other does not... the deciding question would be "Are you loosing business to the other restaurant, because of the service they offer?"

  9. Drive tru's are very good for business. Because your customers don't have to come into the restaurant for service. They have the ease of being in their car.

If you have a large order that is not ready for handing out the window, simply park the car and serve the other orders until the big order is ready. Then run it out to the customer. Problem solved.

From a business standpoint you would want your business percentage higher on the drive tru side than front counter.

  10. I think they should keep drivethrus because it makes it more convienient. For example, if you were disabled and you ouldnt get out of the car it ould be better if we hd drive thrus
