and I don't mean outright encouraged.

If your favorite team's elite player was taken out during a game by some inappropriate deliberate & violent act of an opponent, would you want someone on your team to extract some sort of retaliation?

  1. yes it should be there is nothing wrong with it. as long as it is fair i hate seeing the sucker punches. its apart of the game it boosts morale.

  2. Of course I would want vengeance. There's nothing wrong with it, it's part of the game!

If Bettman gets rid of fighting, I might not watch!

  3. No Fighting is not a part of hockey

  4. Absolutely!!

Players need to police the game. With only 4 zebras on the ice even when they have a good night they can't watch 12 players with only 4 sets of eyes. Cheap shots will be taken and missed by the officials and teams must protect their players. Not having an enforcers in the NHL would result in total anarchy. Ironically.. less fighting would result in more injuries and dangerous plays.

Also the majority of hockey fans enjoy a good scrap.. pumps up the team and the fans.

  5. Definately.  A man needs to stand up for his teammates.  This does not mean that you can go around cheap shotting people, but you need to stand up for yourself and your team.

  6. yes

fighting is used by teams to keep games under control, ironically.  when a player lays a big hit on a star player or takes a cheap, but clean, shot on a player, the refs can't do anything about it, the players however can kick the stuffing out of the guy and show the other team that this kind of thing won't be tolerated, and while the game may start to get a little rougher, the guy who previously took the cheap shot, probably won't do it again

  7. Since at the pro and major junior level fighting is allowed by the rules then it should be permitted. And retaliation is a part of the game and happens all the time.

  8. i would if somebody took ovechkin or semin or anybody on the caps out i'd want somebody else to kick ***, thats the only time when a fight is really serious when its in defense of a team mate all other fights are just for show

  9. Fighting in NHL hockey, compared to 20-30 years ago, is almost gone. With the influx of Eastern European players in the NHL, who are raised on skill, the fighting in the NHL has really gone down. Now in minor league hockey, they still tend to fight quite a bit. As far as your question goes, there is kind of an unwritten rule in hockey amongst the fighters. You don't go after the other teams skill players.
