Question:

Should football be an olympic sport?

I think it would be awesome if it was. Personally, I don't think it will happen for the following reasons,

1) The U.S. and Canada are the only countries with football leagues and both have different rules.

2) It would cut into training camp.

3) The risk of injury.

It makes me wonder if the NFL is floating this idea around by having a regular season game in England again this year. Are they trying to grow interest overseas in hopes other countries start their own leagues even though NFL Europe folded last year?

  1. Probalby only america, canada, australia play football.

  2. The answer to this question is, yes - Australian Rules football should be introduced as an olympic sport.

At least it would be interesting to watch - not like that stop-start, wishy-washy game they refer to as football in the US.

  3. no. there is too much possibility of injury in american football. think about it. would you want to risk the health of your team (mine's the cowboys) over the silly olympics? no, i'd much rather have them focus on winning the superbowl.

  4. Football already is an olympic sport.

But gridiron isn't and it never will be because it is played by one country and it's for whims, with all that padding and c**p.

  5. NO.The olympics is bout sports that r not as easy to do and that take a while to learn. In football all u do is pass a ball and run!No hard thing to that. Also the olympics is for games of class and major skill in football ppl jump on ppl to stop them from getting a ball in a goal BIG DEAL!!! Most guys might say she is just saying that bc she is a woman, but some women do like football so it is not bc of that faceat all .I just fell that football is a sport that anyone can learn  at the drop of a dime and it id not that important. All they do is break bones and run one ball to a goal.I think that football is not in the olympics for a reson and those resons r there for a reason.

  6. no no no GOD NO. we shudnt take football to any other countries cuz they dnt want it. theyve got the european football league and it shud stay at that. just a small league of like 8 teams. thats it.

  7. teams usually play 1 game a week, trying to fit a whole tourney in a 2 week olympic not gonna happen

  8. AWESOME!!!! Dont be negative... tackle football is played in more than 50 countries split onto 6 continents! by 2018 there will be 100 nations playing the sport... do the math... by 2010 there will be about 65-70 countries practising gridiron! there're 50-55 member nations in the IFAF!!! In the UK tackle football is getting really popular ever since the NFL launched its games @ Wembley!!! it will be possible for gridiron to be inducted surprisingly for the summer 2012 games!!!(80% chance)

btw i could imagine Nastia Liukin telling Todd Reesing(Jayhawks) and Ryan Murphy to anhiliate the h**l outta China, lol(somehow they'll put up a toe2 toe fight with the USA's NCAA Dream team if it were to happen, lol) overall very high chance since the sport is sceretly taking earth by storm.... i hope chicago wins the 2016 hosting!! ITS TIME TO SHOW THE WORLD ON HOW TO WIN A GOLD THE HARD WAY!!!!

PS: from now on... lets call american football! TACKLE FOOTBALL!!!

  9. Definitely, that way if Americans loose to other events they can just tell their football team to annihilate the country which pissed them off the most!

  10. Erm... No thanks *pushes it away* You can keep it America, it's okay.

Football... eh... not really a global thing... The USA would probably make a big deal about it being in the olympics because they are pretty much the only ones that play it. Also, in Canada, the people aren't nearly as fanatical about football as they are in America.

You pretty much answered your question yourself though. It shouldn't be an olympic sport because not enough countries play it, cuts into training, and the risk of injury.

  11. I live in Switzerland and there is an American football league here of about 10 teams. Not exactly top notch material, but it is getting more popular.

    GO GENEVA SEAHAWKS!!!!!!

  12. no. american football sucks. its violent and macho and about mindless drones following plays to a t called by the coach. almost like war with soldiers doing everything their commander, general, president tells them. no wonder why americans love it so much and the rest of the world doesn't. compare to soccer which allows more freedom and individuality and is more free-flowing

  13. The biggest problem aside from the lack of quality competition would be the physical nature of the game.  Because of the pounding teams don't play more than once a week.  They would have to have to qualify teams well before the Olympics started to narrow the field down to 8 teams.  That would be 3 games to decide the gold medal winner.

  14. not enough countries play it

  15. It'll be dope. We would definitely get gold every Olympics. Imagine Peyton Manning throwing a pass to Terrell Owens or Ed Reed and Brian Urlacher gang tackling. It would be awesome to see Adrian Peterson and Ladainian Tomlinson in the same backfield. We wouldn't even have to steal signals because the other countries wouldn't know what to do. I'd like to see any country stop Tom Brady. I just want to see it so that we can see who can do better touchdown celebrations and rub it into the opponents betweet T.O. and Ocho Cinco. I want to see Ray Lewis kill someone. I'd just see it for the sole fact that we would always dominate like forever.

  16. No.  No other countries play it and I really don't want to see the British or French mincing about with a football.

  17. no..American football is an American sport

not that any countries play it

  18. umm..obviously not??

the olympics are a WORLD event.

and since the u.s. and canada are the only countries that play football, and the u.s. is the only country that actually likes it, it wouldnt make sense.

wouldn't it just be the u.s vs. canada?

  19. Football (soccer) is an Olympic sport.  If any other type of Football were to be added to the Olympics, it would be Rugby Union because it has far more International Appeal then NFL.

  20. h**l NO. Football is a stupid sport played by USA because we think we're to good to play soccer like the rest of the world. Its so stupid and complicated. Why play that when soccer is twice as fun. Its also boring because you get like one 10 second play and you stop, you get another 10 seconds and stop, and so on. AND then they take their g*y sausage fest shower together and have their g*y after parties in locker room. Football players think they're so tough when they don't have the brains do anything right. The fact that you have to put all this equipment and c**p is so stupid. Why dress up like an idiot? The only good thing about football are the cheerleaders cause they're hott.

I'm telling you man, football sucks. Jocks are g*y. USA needs to start taking up soccer, a REAL sport.

  21. No.

No other clarification needed for such a senseless question.
