I know this changed after pros were let into the Olympics but some of the best moments in hockey history came during those series'.

I say bring it back..An All Star squad with hitting would be great..Anyone else?

  1. I like NHL players staying in the Olympics. It would bring down the value of the World Juniors if juniors were in the Olympics IMO.

Anyway I love the idea of the NHL regular season champion playing the KHL champion for some sort of world club title. The reason why it should be the regular season champion is because of planning purposes. It would take place in North America on even years, and Europe on odd years (or vice versa). It would be played at a neutral site.

  2. I remember the Canadian National team back in the day when it was our amateurs versus the Russians and other European teams that were stocked with full time hockey players.  We did not bad since our best players were in the NHL back then and theirs were not.  Bad/biased officiating usually did us in.

Ah the memories! Listening to the radio in the early morning to catch the Canadian games and getting extremely peed off when the referees called bad penalties on canada.

IF they bought it back the games would be more even; but hasn't the World Juniors replaced the so-called amateur show downs?

  3. Summit Series, no, because it was a symbol of the Cold War, like 1980, apparently. These guys HATED each other to the point where a certain Flyer paper-pusher broke someone's ankle with a hockey stick. That kind of stuff just isn't tolerated in this day and age anymore. In the 25th anniversary Summit Series, it really wasn't that intense at all; it wasn't even any relief to my lack of hockey fix then. The CHL All-Stars vs. the Russian Junior All-Stars was so much more enjoyable because of the taunting involved. Let the classic series lie where it is.

As for the World Cup, it's not a set time frame like the Olympics. It looks like it happens whenever it's convenient. The last one was just before the lockout which made sense because people would flock to it, knowing that it would be a very long time before they see any kind of professional hockey again (side note, I'm surprised Montreal didn't blow itself up from lack thereof). Also, there wasn't any PA or franchiese worries that someone would be hurt to the point where they wouldn't be able to play for the rest of that year; there WASN'T any hockey played that year at all!

  4. That be great and it couldn't hurt look how successful the Winter classic was. When I was younger I saw USA vs. Russia in Florida, great game. If your a fan that brings things to a different level. It gives you that all star game feel with out the price tag, lines or B.S.

  5. They can't try to bring back the Summit Series.  They tried to recreate with the juniors last summer and it didn't work.  You just can't recreate the tensions between the teams and the countries that existed at that time.

But if they did something like that, without trying to bring back the actual summit Series that would be great!

  6. Let the juniors play in the Olympics and bring back the Canada Cup. I can see a KHL vs NHL game before the season starts or after it ends.

  7. I think it'd diminish the Olympics. As for an exhibition between Canada and Russia I think that fell with the fall of the Iron Curtain

The fatc is hate between the Canadians and Russians just isn't there anymore

A real seres would be cool. Like a yearly exhibition tournament held in Early September w/all players not just those whose teams missed the playoffs
