Eight Belles (Race Horse) recently got put down since the fracture was too severe, and apparently, these rich snobs only care about money and not the horse.

How do you feel about this ?

  1. No it should not be banned.

Not only will it cause an economic crisis for many in the racing industry all over the country.  It will also leave thousands and thousands of horses homeless, who ultimately will end up going to slaughter.

I also believe Eight Belles owners and veternarians did the right thing for her injuries.  To euthanize any animal is a hard decision, but most times, it is for the benefit of the animals well being.

  2. to me it depends on the type of racing if it's just for money then yes it should be banned....I heard about Eight Belles and that was terrible and so sad

  3. all animal racing and sports involving animals should be outlawed. it is inhumane.

  4. Do you really think they're all just rich snobs who are only in it for the money?  I can 100% GUARANTEE you there are several people who loved that filly to pieces.

How do you suggest they would have fixed her?  Carried her in a sling to the vet office to operate on her, where she had a slim chance of surviving, not to mention the damage the sling would do to her digestive system, and then IF she survived, confine her (a horse who has been bred and trained to RUN) in a stall, NOT MOVING for 6 months or more?  Do you really think that's more humane than putting her down?  I mean really, it's horrible they had to, but it's not like they just said "Oh it would be too much money to fix her".  They couldn't do anything else.  She has to have at LEAST three legs to stand on.

  5. No racing should not be banned, nor should other forms of equine competition that on occasion result in the death of the horse or rider and yes Jockys are killed and permanently injured in races, perhaps more often than horses are).

It's more than just being about the money to most owners and trainers as the vast majority of people racing horses don't make much money doing it, they do it because they love working with horses.

What you see on network TV is just the cream of the crop, the top .01% You don't see the other 1000 or so races held nationwide on a daily basis which do not offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in purse money

  6. Will people please stop asking this question over and over.  This question has already been asked and answered about a dozen times.

  7. absolutely not, I'm not a snob and I sure not rich.Horse racing is the greatest sport in the world.

  8. I don't think it should be banned; economically that would not be a smart idea.

I just think that they shouldn't push the horses ridiculously hard to win a race.

  9. Most TB horse owners care very deeply about their horses, and most race horses love to run. The connections of Eight Belles loved her and treated as a member of the family. I understand why this tragic breakdown is upsetting, but unless you know something about it you're just shooting in the dark.

Should racing be made safer? Sure. But banning races will solve nothing. There is far worse cruelty happening to human beings every day, not to mention horses in other countries.
