Should humans create a race of mechanical slaves?

Sort of like in the movie I Robot.

What about Animatrix?  Those droids were pretty pissed at being slaves to humankind.  No slavery is cool.  We can make our own sandwiches.

I would think you could be opposed to that.

Sentience should not be enslaved. We are even in the process of vastly improving how we treat animals we use.

I suppose if the machine were no more self conscious than a truck, then it might be alright.

Japan is already doing it to solve the issue of aged pensioners. With falling birthrates and high longevity, the Japanese are burdened with the problem of nobody being available to take care of their elderly. The problem will become more acute in the coming years. Cos. like Honda are doing everything they can to have robots created to do everything from cooking to making beds. This business is going to see more competition between robot manufacturers than even the fiercely competitive auto business.
