i know this question is stupid but is it really required? the reason i'm asking is coz i used to be a waiter before and my previous employer would require us to shave before coming to work. currently, i am maintaining a beard and i don't want to shave it off although i keep it neat and trimmed. at the same time, i'm looking to work at a restaurant part-time as a waiter since i have experience in it. i know it would depend on the employer but i just wanna ask if MOST restaurants require that their employers shave (for reasons that the customer might be grossed out or something or it's dirty to look at)?

  1. yes

  2. Yes, you SHOULD shave your beard off before going to the restaurant.

The reason is not that a beard might be dirty to look at, or that a customer might be grossed out.

The actual reason for a restaurant employer to ask you to shave is that hair from the beard can easily fall into the customer's food order, which is unsanitary.

This is the same reason kitchen staff with long hair are required to wear plastic caps.

  3. it is required that you shave your face though many places do allow mustaches.  mandated by the health department

  4. the owner usually see's it as a clean thing and thinks the consumer will like a clean restaurant

  5. AS long as it it kept neatly trimmed, most restaurants would NOT require you to shave.

  6. It really does depend on the restaurant.  I know some that require it and some that don't.  I would suggest keeping it very short and neatly trimmed during your job search, and let them tell you if you need to shave it.

  7. yes it makes you look clean but @ home

  8. personally I dont mind if its kept neat and trimmed, so i suggest u can shave it off only if your employer needs u to

  9. I was at a restaurant for 12 years, from bus boy to manager.  The only time it was a problem was when a cook had one.  For health code reasons, they had to have them covered.  FOH staff had to be neatly shaven.  But you're right, it depends on the employer.
