i'm starting my 1st yr of college with a declared major of BSN. lately many people have been telling me to be an M.D. beacuse of the way they think i'll do but i originally wanted to be a nurse because of all the wonderful benefits, pay, and the flexibility they have and i want to further study to CRNA. i have a college GPA of 3.5-3.6 and i'm still a h.s. senior with enough college units to get me through freshman standing. I'm really open-minded about these suggstions yet i need to choose my major now because i'm starting my classes and i dont want to waste time/$ on courses i dont need. ughhh i really dont know! help! suggestions? advises? what can you say from your experiences? i dont know what i should do! i just want to finish my undergrads with a degree and then work part time with that degree while i'm studying for a higher degree. maybe that's why i wanted to be a CRNA but what about M.D.? btw i'm going to start college at San Francisco State and i hope to transfer from there.

  1. go for the md ... cnra 's get the shaft ... do all the dirty work, all the heavy lifting, have to take all the c**p from the patients, nurses, doctors, family,  '''' my mother was a crna and the stories she told me

  2. They do 2 diff things..you should shadow both for a wk or two...CRNA will be limited field ie you can't really do anything else....MD you can go into many diff fields of medicine.but you will have to or should be board certified.. But its not all great long hours, liability, etc..

  3. well if you want to keep both options open, med schools don't require a specific degree, just certain prereq courses. I would continue with your nursing degree because you seem to want that more, and just do the prereqs for med school also in case you change your mind.

Do not let other people tell you to be an MD. It's easy for other people to tell others to be an MD because they don't have to put in the work themselves. Med school is hard and sucks, so you have to have the passion and determination to be a doctor going into it to get through it. Good luck with your choices

  4. The answer to that is obvious.  If you can get into med school you would be crazy not to go.  A licensed MD has infinate options.  Healer or quack you will make money.  You can set your own hours and do what you want.  And as far as the person sayin it is hard.  If you can get in you will get out.

  5. Be an M.D., similar to the reasons above, more respect ect.

As shocking as it may sound, medical school is not impossible or very difficult as many make it seem to be, maybe it makes them feel important, and/or they think they exclusively posses a superior intelligience. Their arrogance has no bounds. We see this {arrogance} especially with regards to alternative medicine.

Hope this helps, i would like to end this post with two inspirational quotes: -

T'here is just one life for each of us: our own'

'Your life is in your hands, you make it what you choose'
