I'm having doubts about my career as i want to become a midwife but there are them lil things in my head saying "what if" . i don't know if i will like it, i've watching a couple of videos of women giving birth and i felt fine about it but i didn't like it when the midwife cut her v****a so the baby could come out but i could get over that. also there are hardly any jobs about for midwifes and its hard to get into in university. and people say its really hard work at university.

is it really hard work?

what are the chances of getting a job?

  1. If you have to think about it this much you should try something you are more comfortable with.  I have a friend who is doing nurse traing now and then wants to do midwifery straight after.  She knows what she wants and is getting on with it. Hope you get sorted. x

  2. Midwifery is growing, but the schoolwork is close to that of a doctor.  Jobs in the field are becoming more frequent.  It also opens up the chance for travel.  In England, midwives are the norm, unlike America where it's doctor, doctor, doctor.

You should try an internship at a hospital during your first couple of years of college before you actually get into the coursework.

  3. There is a very serious shortage of midwives, I would think you would get a job anywhere once qualified. Only you can decide if you are prepared to train for the number of years it would take. Have you thought of approaching a hospital to see if you could do work experience of some sort to see if you would like it as a career, if you could do this the hospital may be able to point you in the right direction for training as well.
