Im at that stage where i really need to choose what i want to do. im going towards primary school teaching because i think younger children would be easier than secondary students. i have a passion for teaching and i love kids but im not always so friendly with them as others are, sometimes i am a bit distant? does this matter... i am nice to them though.

what are some things teachers can and cant do...some rules?

is there a lot of work to mark at home?

if your a teacher... what is your life like?

i am an Aquarius, a lot of my teachers were aquaians so i think teaching would be good for me...

i would just like to know also, what job you have, and if you enjoy the work you do. just for some ideas

THANK YOU VERY MUCH ;)

  1. You want to base your career decisions on your zodiac sign?  Let me guess, science isn't your favorite subject.

In any case, if you really love children, there are many careers you could choose from.  If you truly have a passion for teaching, as you say, there is definitely a shortage of teachers.  I think you will need to work on being distant, however.  Little children can sense these things in teachers.

For primary levels, the grading isn't as bad as it is for older students.  However, you will need to work at home to come up with projects, fun things, prep work, etc.

  2. I agree with the other two answers. I just wanted to add that younger children are, in my opinion, just as difficult, if not more difficult to teach than secondary students. Sure there are a lot of social issues going on in middle school and high school, but at least most of them can read, and understand what you are saying when you talk to them. I spend a lot of my day tying shoes and dealing with bathroom issues. I repeat the same procedures and rules about 50 times everyday, and know that I will be saying the same procedures and rules 50 times tomorrow, too. When I am teaching a new concept, I have to find lots of different ways of presenting the information because younger students don't always have the vocabulary or abstract thoughts that would make the concept easy to understand. I also spend a lot of my day helping students find solutions to disagreements, and teaching them responsibility. There are a lot of things that go into being a teacher for younger kids that aren't really factors for teachers of older students. Maybe you could observe a teacher for a day in a primary school, and a day in high school to help you make your decision. Good luck!

  3. First, decide how distant you really think you are.  Is it something you can overcome?  It's hard to be distant when you spend all day every day with kids.  They will either not connect with you at all, which can make your day long and difficult, or they will help you become more comfortable.

Now, your days are usually early to rise.  Most of my day is spent on my feet.  There is little time in the day for adult conversation.  Once the school day is over, there is some grading to do at home and there are always lesson plans to work on or parents to call.

If you have a passion for teaching you should absolutely go for it.  If you are still worried about being distant, give some mroe thought to older students, they won't mind as much if you aren't involved.

Remeber, all of your questions are things that can be overcome and delt with on the fly as long as you are doing something that you love!
