I am GREAT with little kids and I love kids, everyone tells me that I should be teacher but...?

I'm not sure if I should or not and I need to hurry up and decide if I want to pursue it or continue down my business major path. Can anyone give any insight. Maybe some pros and cons anything that will help

  1. I think teaching can be a very rewarding career.  It's a shame that it pays so poorly, especially when you realize that they see your children more during the day than you do!  I think they can have a very positive influence on kids and kids need that today more than anything!

  2. If you don't know for sure, maybe you shouldn't.  I knew since like first grade that I wanted to teach.  Its more than just playing with kids, there is a lot that goes into it, so if your not sure maybe its not for you.  A good idea would be to get a job at a school (maybe as an assistant) that way you can kind of feel it out.

    Good luck!

  3. Take every opportunity you can, and then make a few more, to visit primary schools and really soak up the atmosphere of the place.  Talk to teachers and find out what it is about the job that they love - and also some of the challenges.

Talk also to your friends who know you and last but not least, your parents -however old you are.  They have seen you grown up and probably have a better idea of your strengths and weaknesses than just about anyone.

As for the money, teaching isn't the best paid, but I have known highly paid traders who have ended their life early with the stress, for money to be a major consideration.

  4. maybe you should try substitute teaching for a bit.

  5. I think you should take tutions free of cost for sometime. Because teaching requires lots of efforts and patience.

If your students do well and that you are able to manage with them well( without getting irritated and without

losing interest), then you can think of being a teacher. You have not mentioned what yu do now, but you can carry on with your

studies or job whatever, when you are sure you can become a teacher then go for a degree course (B.ED) then you can

try out for a good school.

    All the best.
