  1. Trust me I am a new vegan. I say yes because you may have the urge to want to eat meat but, you can eat other tasty things. I mean look at me I'd rather starve than eat meat another day in my life. So the answer is yes because now you have taken the first step to help your health, innocent animals, and the environment...

  2. Should you be veggie? It's entirely up to you. If it feels right, go for it. There's not much more to it. It's a personal decision. I was never the greatest meat lover and I didn't like the taste, so it made sense for me to give it up.

@John D, please do some research. Vegetarians are NOT protein deficient morons. And veggies don't just eat broccoli. Meat is not the only source of protein. Did you know that soya products contain ALL 8 essential amino acids? That's a perfect plant source of protein. Nuts, beans and wholegrains are good sources too. A mixed veggie diet provides plenty of protein.

  3. no no no dont do it! bad think!

  4. Vegetarian Food Facts

Approximately 12 million Americans consider themselves vegetarians, or at least ovo-lacto vegetarian (one who eats milk and eggs). This food trend is pursued for a variety of reasons from religious to the belief it is a healthier form of eating.

While vegetarianism can be a way of achieving a healthier diet, it is a radical change and one that is not easily adhered to. There are sufficient studies and evidence that do provide us with proof that even a modified vegetarian diet is beneficial and results in a healthier life.

Many vegetarians are concerned about protein intake. There are many vegetable sources that can provide a person with sources that can supply all of your amino acid (protein) needs. One of the best plant sources of protein is soybean, which contains 30 to 40 percent protein and is closer to meat protein than vegetable when examined under amino acid patterns.

The question of B12 also arises for vegetarians. Most vegetarians do eat some form of dairy product, which takes care of this need.

If you are planning to change your dietary patterns to eating vegetarian, it would be wise to purchase a book on vegetarianism and learn to do extensive meal planning, especially for the first six months.

    Quick Facts

B12 is usually taken as a supplement, since it is found only in sufficient quantities in animal products.

Most vegetarians have lower cholesterol levels than meat eaters.

Vegetarians have fewer cases of colon cancer and digestive problems.

Soy products contain high levels of phytoestrogens which scientists now think will reduce the risks of breast and prostate cancer.

Tofu products may vary significantly regarding nutritional content, best to read the labels.

Tempeh is a chunky, chewy soybean product that has been mixed with rice or millet.

Miso is a combination of soybeans and a grain. Has very little fat and usually used as a seasoning for soups, dips and stews.

Iron and zinc are not as easily absorbed by true vegetarians and may have to be supplemented.

Beans and rice are one of the best combinations to acquire all the essential amino acids.

A good source of calcium is dark green leafy vegetables.

Vegetarian products made from soybeans have a lower fat content and still provide an excellent source of protein.

Most vegetarian foods contain too much sodium. When preparing vegetarian foods, try to omit the soy sauce which seems to be the high sodium source.

    Types of Vegans

True Vegetarian:  Eats nothing from an animal, fresh or processed.

Lacto-Vegetarian:  Includes dairy products in their diet.

    Hope This Helps?

  5. Yes.

    Animal rights.

  6. Yes, in a nut shell be a Vegetarian, and definitely eat some nuts to replace the protein of meat, as already explained, and careful you don't over do it on the Carbohydrates as a Vegetarian, also if you don't mind eggs, eat the nice free range ones, I eat the posh superior quality ones called 'Old Cotswald Legbar', they have pastel coloured egg shells and are totally cruelty free they are from Chickens that are free to roam fields, and the best tasteing eggs you will ever taste.

Vitamin B12 is also found in yeast extracts, contrary to what the Top Contributor 'Fed Up' says, "only found in meat", and more Vitamin B12 will also be found in Soya Milk, so drink plenty of that if you are concerned about Iron deficiency in your blood.

Quorn products are mainstream if you want to replace your chicken fillets in cooking for a Vegetarian option, and are mostly made of 'Micoprotein' which is very low in fat but high in Protein, most of their products contain egg though, and I think they've only just started using free range eggs in their products cos of the increasing pressure from the Vegetarian Society, so that's good news.

Find out where your nearest 'Viva' Vegetarian show will be, and you can sample the best range of Vegetarian and Vegan products available, it's fun and exciting and you won't want to look back at why you ate meat in the first place.

  9. You won't like it you will become weak willed. You will also be very hungry most of the time. And we weren't really made to be vegetarians. We have to replenish our protein somehow and broccoli as yummy as it is ain't gonna do it.

  10. Yes,why not. It's for the animals...To help them not to extinct...But I hope you don't mind if I ask you...First if you want to become a vegetarian you think about the animals...I suspect you want to become a vegetarian just because you don't like the taste of meat anymore...Do you really think about the animals when you want to become a vegetarian or think about the taste...DOES SOMEONE CARE ABOUT ANIMALS THEESE DAYS???
