Should i be allowed to see doctors records ?

i have asked the coroner if i can have the doctors and nurses records when he has finished with them, but i dont think he is going to let me have them, have i got rights to see them, as i need them for imformation on whot happend to my mum.

  1. you should be able to get them if they don't want to give them to you get a lawyer..


  2. No you won't be allowed to. Against the law unless you're a police with warrant.

  3. There's a couple of factors involved.  

    Firstly, are you over 18?  If not, then no you won't be able to get them.

    Secondly, if they require the medical records for any further investigation, then I don't believe they are able to even give out copies until it's all finalised.

    You could try contacting your mother's doctor and requesting them directly from him/her.  I used to work in a doctor's office and we would only ever send photocopies of patient files to the coroner as we were required to keep the originals on file.  The doctor may be willing to make a copy for you, but again, only if you are over 18.

  4. I'm not sure where you live, but you might not be able to get a hold of anything other than the death certificate. There should be a reason of death on there if it is not just a copy. You would have to be her closest relative. If she was married, there probably isn't much that you can do, because he would be the one who had access to her records.
