Should i be insured?

Do I really need to be insured to drive a car for one day, or to drive someone else car’s Take note that the car that I am driving is insured, some of them are one way, and some are full coverage,

The reason I am asking this is because my stupid uncle turn me down when I was trying to barrow their van, there was some times when his family including him ask me if I can drive them to this place where they want to go using my families’ car. My uncle knows that I don’t have a car and I am not insured but he makes this comment about “is not that far” now that he have his own can he won’t let me drive it, he’s asking me if I’m INSURED, he also make this stupid retarded comment, once your insured you can take the car anytime you want.

I don’t know what his talking about, he talking about life insurance or car insurance, all I know, if you have a car you need to insured and then your name will be on the insurance policy,

Pleases answer, I just want to prove a point to my mom’s brother, and to my stupid retarded uncle, my mom’s brother in law,

  1. I am an underwriter for a large insurance company and yes you are covered in the event of an accident if your uncle has proper insurance.  if you were to get into a couple of accidents then his insurance company may require you to be a rated driver on the vehicle as you have been the cause of 2 claims.  thus, you become a liability and would either need to be excluded or rated.  however, your uncle is probably thinking in terms of liabilty for you.  if you have insurance on a particular vehicle, then your uncle could subrogate the claim to your insurance company to pay for the vehicle if you are negligent.  in answer to your question ar you covered? yes.  will his insurance go up if you get into an accident? yes.  should you have insurance to drive? maybe if he is wants to place liability on your insurance and have your insurance go up if you get into the accident.  you are both right it just depends on the vantage point.  hope that helps!

  2. Generally, in the US, if you are not a regular user, are not a household member which requires you to be a listed driver,  you are not specifically excluded on the policy, and you have the owner's consent, you DO NOT need to be insured.  You are automatically covered as an "insured" under the owner's own policy.

It is also possible that you are covered under a household member's policy if you are a named/listed driver on their policy.  This coverage would kick in as excess primary should you be at fault for an accident, and your uncle's coverage is exhausted.  This layering of coverage is not allowed in all states.

  3. The car is insured, not you. You can drive his car, unless his address is the same as yours and he specifically excluded you from his policy.

When you stop indiscriminately using derogatory terms like retarded and stupid he will probably be more willing to see your side of things. Otherwise, you appear to be too immature to drive. Grow up.

  4. Liability insurance covers the car, not the driver, and in most cases anyone who drives it is covered unless specifically excluded.

Perhaps your uncle would show you his insurance policy if he wants to prove his point.

  5. Do you have a driver's license? That should be the main question. Your uncle has every right to not let you drive if he can't trust you.
