should i be moving my belly button ring?

i got my belly button pierced yesterday afternoon. its still pretty sore and tender so i'm trying not to touch or hit it very much besides to clean it. my cousin was telling me today that i need to be sliding it up and down so that it doesn't heal around the ring (which i understand.. that's what i was told about my ear piercings, etc.) but it hurts REALLY bad and its bleeding a bit and since its so newly pierced i feel like its not necessary.. but i don't want it to get stuck or anything.

my cousin doesn't have her belly button pierced anymore because it got really infected.. so i'm thinking she's not a very reliable source. but can someone help me!? and tell me anything else i need to know about it.. because i'm not quite sure. i just know to clean it often and when to change it. thanks!

  1. When you clean it, you should be sliding the ring through the hole so that the cleaner, whatever you are using, GETS INTO the piercing, otherwise you are just cleaning the outside, and that's not enough.  This will generally suck for the first few days.  If you are concerned, go back to the place where you got it done, and have them go over everything with you again.

  2. You shouldn't be moving your jewelry at all. Moving the jewelry can tear and damage the skin, causing scar tissue to form. It can also cause bacteria to enter the piercing.

The skin will not heal around the ring. This is rare, but can happen in lip piercings and nipple piercings if the bars are too short. I haven't heard of it happening with many other piercings.  You might get crusties (lymph or discarded skin cells) stuck around the jewelry. In that case, you can wet a q-tip with warm water and wipe them away. Touch your piercing as little as possible, especially if you have unclean hands.

For the pain, try taking some ibuprofin and icing the area. Clean your piercing two to three times a day with saline solution (1/8 of a teaspoon of sea salt to 8 oz of warm water). That's all you need to do.

You can change the jewelry after your piercing has healed in about 4-5 months. Naval piercings can take up to a year to heal though, so I would recommend seeing a piercer before you replace the jewelry.

    Good luck!

  3. You should only be cleaning twice a day.  Each time after you clean it then you move it around, never before because you might force something into you new piercing.

  4. you need to clean it at least twice a day

you can do a sea salt soak in a cup with hot water

you like put the cup of your belly botton and lay down so it soaks

and i heard tea tree oil is good but if u dont wanna use that

    get this stuff called bactine

its in a spray bottle and it helps with piercings

dont use rubbing alcohol, if u ever do

    only like once a week

since it dries up the skin
