  1. during Boot camp/basic training the ONLY free time they have is on Sundays for just a couple of hours.    if he was never a letter writer beforehand, he won't suddenly change and become one.   Phone calls are rare indeed.

Once he arrives at School, he will have regular access to phones and computers.

  2. If his army unit is bad, they won't let them write home. Depends on his unit.

  3. Well, phone calls are limited during Basic Training. He still, however, should have sufficient time to at least call you once. AIT is a different story. During AIT, soldiers are allowed to purchase cell phones.

  4. Mrsjvb has really said it all. Im retired Navy, I remember bootcamp... No phone calls may if your lucky on Sundays, but like she said during school he's free to.

  5. My daughter is in BCT, and she said if we do not hear from her for some time, is because the co. has been in trouble. So that may be the case for him. We look forward to her call on Sundays and she is a writer.

  6. Well, everyone I know who did basic always wrote to friends/loved ones during boot camp because it was a temporary escape and it kept them sane; everyone likes mail call. On the contrary, they're under imense pressure, physically and emotionally so I wouldn't worry too much cuz some just can't find the energy to write. In AIT he will eventually have access to even come off post, and definate access to phones and internet and more free time; so maybe be a little worried if he doesn't contact you during AIT. Just being brutally honest, but why are you concerned? If you guys love eachother, and have been dating a while I'm sure he'll contact you. I hate to tell you, but I broke up with my b/f when he went to AIT. We never saw eachother, and he admitted he slept around a bit cuz they live in what's pretty much like college dorms. So yeah, that did not work out for us, but I know plenty of people who have stayed together. It depends on you two as individuals and nothing else. Hope it works out xx

  7. They are supposed to write letters a certain amount of times, but they are forced to write one to their families, not significant others.  I wouldn't be upset, because this is his time to think about himself, not you.  Expect not to hear from him at all, and if you do, GREAT! When my brother in law went for boot camp, he only wrote his parents letters, not my sister (before they were married).
